disabled.badass (i think threads)

when I say I'm "too disabled to work" I don't mean I'm too disabled to physically be able to work any job, I'm saying I'm too disabled for the VAST MAJORITY of employers to want to hire me. people need to understand this.

Arctic circle kind of sounds like quartic squircle and I think someone should do something with this

It’s x^4 + y^4 = 1 for reference

Sapience is what refers to having human-like intelligence and no one is suggesting cows are sapient!!!

Did you confuse sentient with sapient? Because I don’t think you can make a case that cows are not sentient. They have sensory organs and respond to stimuli from their environment, strongly suggesting they’re using those organs for sensory perception (hence sentient)

I can’t respect authority because it’s all pretend.

Power is real, but I’m not talking about acquiescing to power.

I think people look silly when they pretend to be higher than someone else.

Like, why put a point on Jesus not existing? I don’t think the Bible stories are true in any case. What’s implausible about them being false stories about a real person?

I think there is plausible evidence that someone called Jesus of Nazareth lived in 1st century Galilee. Part of what makes it plausible to me though is that it’s inconsequential to me as an atheist whether Jesus existed or not. I’m not any more skeptical of Jesus than I am of other ancient figures

This is a bad idea because intelligence can’t be objectively defined or measured

One of the most basic principles of media literacy is that a depiction of a thing is not an endorsement of that thing

I like having noisy apartment neighbors because there's no chance of anyone complaining about my considerably lesser noise

Looking at how flat the base is on the side leads me to think this is a cut crystal. The top surface might be natural but the sides appear to be cut or sanded down.

When or how do credentials matter in your opinion when it comes to things like YouTube videos? That’s not a challenge, I’m just curious.

I’m a teacher and to me teaching is essentially interpersonal. Presenting information isn’t the same as teaching someone something. Specifically I think teaching has to involve feedback.

In my experience as a teacher these terms are usually used only when the person is formally presenting lessons or giving instruction. I personally wouldn’t say that everyone who creates educational content is an educator per se.
(By formally I mean the form the content takes, not that it is formal)

Video essays can also be personal essays which to me fits in a different category.

I don’t actually have any feelings about the word “infotainment” though.

1 month ago 2 0 0 0

I’d argue that is among the origins of the modern phenomenon. People want to learn stuff about the world and they want to be entertained. There were publications earlier on, and then there were TV shows. The internet massively lowered the cost of entry for creators which boosted quality a lot.

The real problem with unfalsifiable claims is not that they can’t be disproven, but rather that they cannot be corroborated by evidence

Yeah. It's not easy out here for the pedantic.

This has to be a bot right? This response makes no sense.

Israeli and Palestinian aren’t religions. It’s an ethnic conflict over a perceived homeland, it’s not a religious conflict. How Israel treats people of different religions within their own country is beside the point.
