There is life after fascism. It's not forever.
There have been a lot of mayoral forums, but very few questions on energy and the environment. We plan to change that!
Join us at the library on Monday, April 27 at 6:30 pm and help the mayoral candidates realize that there's a lot of people who care about these issues in Athens. 🌞
All five mayoral candidates met at this debate hosted by Delta Sigma Theta in March, in case anyone is still interested in watching it.
Just got to posting it now, my apologies!

The Athens-Clarke County Democrats held a debate for candidates running for commission in Districts 5 and 7 yesterday.
If you missed it because of the protest, you might want to check this one out. A quality debate all around.

"Inside the arena, attendees posted about the low attendance. Photos and video showed that the arena floor was only partially filled, with very few people sitting in the stands."

I like Bennie actually! He's eccentric maybe but a good person I feel. I'm not trying to attack him, but he says some weird things sometimes.
I can't remember the Athena statue thing!
I love how far the Overton window has shifted on fare-free bus service over the past decade. Basically everyone supports it, all the candidates for commission do.
@timdensonath.bsky.social It puts into focus two of your opponents running for mayor, who stand alone in not supporting it.
Nope not that time! Just that he would shut it all down. 😆
He let me know that all city employees would still go to work, just that the commission would not vote on anything and would reflect for 6 months.
I attended the debate for ACC Commission candidates in districts 5 and 7 tonight, and it was great. These candidates are a good bunch.
One interesting moment was when Bennie Coleman said he would "shut down city hall" for 6 months if elected. 👀
(By that, he meant the M&C would not take any votes)
District 5 won the candidate lottery this year.
Not only does it have the most candidates running of any commission district, but they have some of the best candidates as well in my humble opinion.
Good luck making your decision, District 5!
Community advocate Kimberly Bennett, vice chair of the ACC Hearings Board Rick Stanziale, financial advisor Zander Mason and chaplain Craig Topple are all running to be the next ACC Commissioner in District 5.

Oconee County is considering starting its own public ambulance service.
Currently, Oconee is served by the same for-profit ambulance company as Clarke, which has been criticized for slow response times and poor transparency.

This policy does nothing to protect anyone, isn't internally consistent and will lead to discrimination against women who produce higher levels of testosterone without hormone therapy.
The Olympics has caved to anti-trans, anti-woman bigotry. It's disgusting.
"Eligibility for any female category event at the Olympic Games or any other IOC event, including individual and team sports, is now limited to biological females, determined on the basis of a one‑time SRY gene screening."
Absolutely shameful.

Found out, thank you!!
Does anyone know how to get in touch with Tracy Smith, who is running for District 9 commissioner?
Terry Johnson is challenging incumbent Commissioner Patrick Davenport for the privilege of representing the southeast side on the ACC Commission.
APN interviewed them both in this 26-minute podcast to help District 1 residents decide who to vote for.

The Tim for Athens mayoral campaign received two unsolicited $1,000 donations from Rock Nobster records, but after recent allegations have come to light, Denson is donating this money to DIVAS Who Win, The Cottage and Project Safe.
