Used the same brand of rice for 8 years only to find SRK endorsing this year. All life choices fully affirmed now.

I had more fun watching a 1.5 minute Myntra ad than I had the whole last year at the movies. If Farah and SRK could just record themselves talking about cats for an hour, I’m sure it would be better than pretty much anything else in the Bollywood pipeline right now.

On a work trip when my kids were toddlers, colleagues were complaining about terrible hotel buffet food. Confused for a sec because I thought it was amazing. Then it hit me - it had literally been years since I ate a full plate of warm food in one sitting. Things no one tells you about mom life.

About the Nagina episode of #KhandaanPodcast, @amritaiq.bsky.social, I’m 100% sure the assistant snakes sewed up that salwar kameez in the khandar just like the mice in Disney’s Cinderella. Huge oversight to not include that scene in the movie.

Completely understand their concern, but these counties overwhelmingly vote for people who dismantle the exact services they’re desperate for. Then at the first sign of crisis, yell at the government for not helping them faster / better. It’s maddening to watch the vicious cycle.

How many versions of the same film can they possibly make? It’s insane that anyone wants to spend money on making or seeing this.

Vicky Vidya is so bad. 30 mins in, I thought, I guess I can watch Mallika Sherawat and Vijay Raaz have fun and mostly ignore the rest. But then aging Daler Mehndi made me sad and that climax scene was irredeemable. Every time the filmmakers had a choice, they made the worst one.🫠

Helen, the conversation with Mary Robinette about figuring out what her mother needed / wanted in those final years was life changing. What a gift. Thank you!

…say, you failed big time today and after you beat yourself up a little, can still do good tomorrow. Apparently I needed that energy in my life.

Realizing how much archetype we’re being fed these days. Where shorthand for good writing is to make characters so static that they can’t and don’t feel real - just main ideas walking around meeting expectations. Laapataa Ladies feels like letting go of the purity none of us will ever achieve and…

Woefully late to the party, but finally saw #LaapataaLadies last week and have been pondering its optimism ever since. Obviously beautifully written, casted, and performed, but the thing that really stays with me is how deeply flawed every character is even as they try so hard to do good.

Digging Tunnels with Pens: Anonymous Publishing as Intellectual Resistance Palestine Square

Been thinking about the role of the scholar, writer, publisher. This is a piece I have come back to repeatedly.

A poem by Langston Hughes titled "Tired". It reads as the following:

"I am so tired of waiting,
Aren't you,
For the world to become good
And beautiful and kind?
Let us take a knife
And cut the world in two --
And see what worms are eating
At the rind."

I've been thinking about this poem by Langston Hughes recently and although it was published in 1931, it remains relevant as ever.

Clearly not peak entertainment, but she may be on to something. Being back in 2015 for a few hours doesn’t sound so bad right now.🤪

I hated it when it first came out, but saw it again last year with the kids and found it incredibly charming. The content bar is so much lower now. Just desperate for a feel good story.

Watched a performance of Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard this weekend. Apparently we’re still having 1903 problems, which is somehow both tragic and reassuring.

Also, I have very strong Peter Trofimov energy.
