When simulation becomes the norm, it weakens the human capacity for discernment. As a result, our social bonds close in upon themselves, forming self-referential circuits that no longer expose us to reality. We thus come to live within bubbles, impermeable to one another. Feeling threatened by anyone who is different, we grow unaccustomed to encounter and dialogue. In this way, polarization, conflict, fear and violence spread. What is at stake is not merely the risk of error, but a transformation in our very relationship with truth.

NEW: the #AlabamaPenis has been freed!
It’s gonna take me a while to process all of the amazing inputs from #TED2026 (I will try for this weekend’s Newsletter). In the meantime, though, I’ll share my big takeaway from the week:
And Dems, if you wanna get really brave, you could follow up with this:
"As long as we're hooked on fossil fuels, we're going to get volatile prices, inflation, financial crises, and dumb oligarch wars. There is no army large enough to bully our way out of this."
Indeed—Happy to talk if you want @volts.wtf !
Hahaha I’m excited to read this paper to see if they make a compelling case based on the current political context (note it’s a working paper, which means it’s not peer reviewed)
After big dams on the upper Klamath River in far northern CA were removed in 2024, Chinook (king) salmon migrated upstream for the first time in 100+ years--and now they have hatched.
A highlight from day 2 of #TED2026: Al Gore talking climate and democracy
Thank you for your work as well (I cite you all the time) and happy to be connected on here!!

Let's see if this effort actually connects with young people and mobilizes them for action...
Today is the day. We're launching More Perfect University, and Bernie Sanders is getting in on the ground floor. Join him and John Russell in launching a whole new way for students to speak truth to power.
Watching Al Gore reference Jurgen Habermas when discussing the challenge of democracy in the US today
Well it’s just autoregistration for now, but if it comes up, for sure!
Happy to see my work included in this piece in the The New York Times. Sad to see my explanation included though.
When comparing youth activism against the War in Vietnam to today, we cannot ignore the role the draft played in mobilizing young people.
