The great Samm Deighan recently invited me on her podcast to discuss our mutual love of frequent Fassbinder collaborator, Kurt Raab, one of West German cinema's all-time greats.

low-key favorite aspect of the new @muscledistribution.bsky.social site is the screenings page -- feels crazy to see that we've got twenty different titles playing theatrically around the world over the next month
You know what is crazy? Abolish ICE was actually a good and actionable idea BEFORE they became a murderous right wing kill squad and were cruel jackboots for republicans and democrats alike. Yes, now the public is more behind it, but ICE has been shitty from day 1
It makes me concerned about who's behind the current iteration of Valiant. At best, they're either incompetent or indifferent to blatant hate rhetoric. At worst, they're showing signs of courting the CG crowd. (at the expense of their pretty progressive current supporter base)
Dude's social media was full of homophobic/transphobic memes and other right-wing drivel. It also wasn't the first time something he wrote could be interpreted as reactionary (see: the weird jab at pro-choice activism in a previous Bloodshot book). And he's a professional translator!
Great writeup on @gaptheatre35.bsky.social, with a brief nod to the film series I program with my colleague, Dan.
One of my proudest achievements at my last job was picking up distribution for the Academy’s gorgeous restoration of the thought-to-be-lost Holly Woodlawn vehicle SCARECROW IN A GARDEN OF CUCUMBERS — it’s out today on blu-ray
No, say it louder. It's absolute bullshit how Across the Spider-Verse made over $300 million in profit, yet neither Marvel nor Sony could be bothered to defray the hospital bills of the man who co-created Miguel O'Hara. Instead they left his wife and family scrambling to afford to live.
Mine is also an Almodóvar movie. (LAW OF DESIRE)
🚨NEWS: The House is set to vote Monday on H.R. 867, the “IGO Anti-Boycott Act,” which would punish Americans with fines of up to $1 million or prison terms up to 20 years for participating in boycotts of Israel or Israeli settlements that are promoted by international governmental organizations (IGOs), such as the UN or EU. The bill, sponsored by pro-Israel lawmaker Rep. Mike Lawler, expands U.S. anti-boycott law to target voluntary, values-based political action by U.S. citizens. Its aim is to shield Israel from nonviolent international pressure campaigns such as BDS. Rights groups say the legislation criminalizes constitutionally protected political expression and is part of a broader push to suppress opposition to Israeli genocide, apartheid, and illegal settlement expansion, under the guise of fighting antisemitism.
I’m not sure I’ve ever seen something so simultaneously absurd and disturbing: the House will vote
Monday on a bill that would punish Americans for participating in boycotts of Israel with fines of up to $1 MILLION or prison terms up to TWENTY YEARS.
Either everyone has due process or no one has any rights.
Some big / scary / exciting news… I’m launching my own film distribution company. It’s called @muscledistribution.bsky.social and will be handling a wide range of titles with a heavy repertory focus.
The announcement is over at Indiewire:

Mahmoud Khalil has become a political prisoner for protesting a US-backed genocide. His detention heralds new vistas of repression made possible by institutions and technological developments begun by the War on Terror.
Back at @ifccenter.bsky.social on February 27th for a rare ~35mm~ screening of one of the best queer films of the 70s (and imo one of the all-time best Canadian films, and one of the all-time best drag films): Richard Benner's OUTRAGEOUS!

I saw a post saying that ICE is pausing its tip line, so I decided to call myself to verify.
The recorded voicemail said they are not currently accepting immigration status tips.
Good job, friends.
Race also threads through many of Kennedy’s comments unearthed by The Post, with several misleading claims about Black Americans, including false claims about Black children’s autism rates after vaccination and comments on their immune systems. “Now we know that, you know, we should not be giving Black people the same vaccine schedule that’s given to Whites, because their immune system is better than ours,” Kennedy said in a 2021 appearance posted on the website of Children’s Health Defense.
RFK Jr's whole deal is just Progressive-era eugenics and I'm continually shocked at how many people don't see it
Even though this was Secret Service (even more insane) - know your rights! Just like on your sidewalk, keep ICE salty borderlessmag.org/2025/01/17/k...
Could you not find a copy of SPEAKING IN TONGUES?
Quote with one of your favorite "lesser known" films.
I still think about this movie all the time. Thank you so much for hipping me to it.

This will also be a consequence of allowing AI to continue in the way it is, not just in writing. It won't replace top tier art careers completely any time soon, but the jobs where you learn the ropes and make the connections? They're already going. Inequalities grow.
Stumbled upon this VERY EXCITING NEWS of a proper release for the legendary, somewhat lost recordings of Sylvester doing standards with jazz pianist and preservationist (and Cockette!) Peter Mintun in 1970. Worth buying for the packaging alone, and to hear that voice applied to these songs, gold.
Don't worry, there's still been some really good stuff post-Hickman, playing in the sandbox he created. (most notably IMMORTAL X-MEN, which focuses on the Quiet Council , and X-MEN RED, which follows Storm and the Arakki on Mars)
BLUESKY ELITE
Welp, I'm here!
