yeah previously I was assuming that all roads leading into a military zone would have traffic signs preventing traffic. but turns out that's not the case and I ended up in an area where some soldiers were prepping to shoot a really really big gun ๐ I guess good that I was on the gun, not target side

I recently wrote an article to cover the new features and fixes I've been working on over the past two months or so! ridi.bike/articles/upd...
In short:
- Residential areas
- No-go areas
- Score calculation improvements
- Motorways rules
- Round trip improvements

... you'd prefer to go further away from the starting point and then come back to have a bigger chance to be on roads you've never been on?
Also with more options do you mean like 'prefer max distance from start point' or something like that? like go as far away from start point and come back?
well the whole point of the app was to let riders find roads in their area they've overlooked or don't know about :) so definitely not a 'you' problem! thanks for the feedback, much appreciated! I'll think about the problem and see what I can do to address it. but to summarize ...
ridi route example shaped like a heart symbol
ridi route example shaped like a snake
may I ask about your expectations though? Why do you feel like it should have produced a large circle instead of leading you through fun local roads? or is the shape less relevant as long as it does not cross itself like these?
... but the rest seem fairly good! did you try any of the routes out? Some of them seem they might be quite fun :)
so I've done a bit of digging into the area and generated routes - generally I'm happy with what it produced! The only thing is the fact that there are quite a few overpasses and it sometimes goes over and then under and so it looks odd, probably need to restrict that...
Finding circular routes is a bit of a challenge in general, it tries to avoid motorways and residential areas. But the one from your example is a bit odd in how it crosses itself several times... Let me investigate!
So this feature is coming but it might take me a while :) but nice to hear I'm on the right track and you also think it would be useful!
Yeah I noticed that myself as well while riding that it would be good to see different road types and surfaces on the overview. I've even finished the first code draft for the router but they exposed some limitations in the app I need to think about and rework some parts to make it usable
Nice one! How have the routes been so far? Any observations or suggestions?
I've just deployed an update to add proper gpx file names as you suggested! thanks again for the idea!
Would the same level of detail be OK for the Plan card? It seems to be the case for Latvia but really hard to tell with other countries. Just thinking of having consistency between the Plan card and the file name...
Oh yeah fantastic idea! Thanks! What sort of start/finish description do you think is best? Like it shows on the Plan card? It could get quite long, should I try to shorten them?
Improving the route generation speed is on my todo list as well, hopefully I can improve that next week!
hey @ssnd292.bsky.social, been hard at work fixing the round-trip generation. now it should in most areas generates a route, it just takes a while. would be awesome to hear your thoughts on the generated routes! :)
I've also addressed some of the app usability issues you've highlighted, thanks! ๐
oh nice catch, I'll make a note and fix it as soon as I can, thank you!
I've been meaning to open source the app and services repo as well, just done that! :) github.com/tomsjansons/...
Also I wanted to thank you for the feedback, incredibly useful to hear opinions about the app especially from people in other countries! Being in Latvia I had for realised the map always cantering on Latvia is not ideal for other regions :D
Ah yes, that is an excellent suggestion - I'll see how I can do that in a non intrusive way! :) but in the mean time there is also the location button on the map (top right corner) for manually showing your location on the map
In any case I encourage you to try different directions and also the from-to mode, it tends to work better. Been meaning to work on round-trip mode improvements at some point
Thanks for checking Ridi out! Germany should be working! There could be several reasons - the routing rules could be too strict, start or end points could be on a private road or I recently pushed an update that broke something :) in most cases it is usually a bug, I'll investigate! ๐
Building up courage for mud ๐
Getting much better at riding sand! Luckily ridi.bike helps me find roads to practise on!
#motosky #motorcycle
Oh yeah took me ages to get up that hill! Didn't even know I had spots like these in my area!
Is that a challenge? ๐
got into a fight with a sandy hill the other day, himmy was a champ and we eventually pulled through!
#motosky #motorcycle
That looks magical, love trails and scenery like this!
Excited to find out what you think, David! The more I ride, the more improvements I think of
Motorcycle very stuck in deep sand
Today on another mini adventure powered by app.ridi.bike again! Good news/bad news - managed to get myself out of sand but ended up in a military installation while there was active training happening... Probably need to fix that ๐
#motosky #motorcycle
Been enjoying the routes app.ridi.bike generates so much that I want more riders to experience these mini-adventures so I've enabled 5 free route downloads for every registered user!
