A watershed novelist for me as a teenager. He changed everything I thought about novels. They needn’t be rule-abiding monoliths; they could play and charm and wink. RIP Tom Robbins.

Yup.
Swype seems to think I wish people "harpy birthday" way more than I do.
I wrote about Neil Gaiman, and the women accusing him of sexual coercion, assault and abuse. www.vulture.com/article/neil...
Oh, god. What is hateful to you, do not do to others. Would you want the law to keep you apart from the person you love and who loves you? Let people be happy. This is what love your neighbor as you love yourself means.
You will read countless times today that the LA mayor cut the LA Fire Department's budget by $23 million.
That is a lie.
The budget was actually *increased* by $50 million.
How to find the best mask for wildfire smoke: - The EPA recommends using a “particulate respirator” tested and approved by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health - It should have the words "NIOSH" and either "N95" or "P100" printed on it - It should have two straps to go above and below your ears
Wildfire smoke contains hazardous pollutants that include toxic gases and particulate matter — solid particles and liquid droplets that are produced when these fires burn through trees, buildings and other materials. wapo.st/3C2qyg2
May 2025 bring you health, peace, joy, and only good things.
Anxious here, but I'm so glad I left.

If you’re afraid that books might change someone’s thinking, you’re not afraid of books, you’re afraid of thinking.
Congratulations! That's wonderful.

The main issue is, the criticism is often that they didn't like the direction a book took or they would have written it differently or make alternative story choices or the villain would have gotten a romantic arc or who knows what.
In those cases, the answer is: write your own story.
Reminding myself this week that I don’t sit down to write because I feel inspired. I sit down to write so I’ll be there, working & ready to go when inspiration shows up.
You just have to be yourself.
I built my friends a waterpark, library, aquarium, chocolate shop, mobile campsite, and a little slice of heaven. Hope I get them all back in the new game. #AnimalCrossing #PocketCamp #ACPC
Happy Thanksgiving!

Last day of #AnimalCrossing #PocketCamp. I'm going to miss this game. #ACPC
Book cover RACE TO THE TRUTH: COLONIZATION AND THE WAMPANOAG STORY shows a Wampanoag woman with long braids paddling a canoe
Book cover HISTORY SMASHERS THE MAYFLOWER shows a pile of Pilgrims dressed in black and white crowded on a ship with a speech bubble that says "It totally didn't happen this way."
Please don't tell kids that old "First Thanksgiving" myth and pass it off as actual history. Share books like these this week instead.
It is grimly, grotesquely fascinating that we have evolved this a truly satirical, impossible-to-fictionalize dystopia where tech companies are needing to buy and build their own *nuclear reactors* to power AI systems that can’t even tell you how many Rs are in the word “strawberry.”
“How’d the world die? A pack of no-talent tech grifters created a digital artbarf machine to spew endless artbarf and each time the machine threw up it drank more water, destroyed more resources. Nobody wanted it but they did it anyway! Eat your roach paste.”

people ask, “how can I recover my sense of wonder?” take an interest in things. visit art galleries, hit up the library and discover-browse. read widely. learn new languages, new words. watch old films. the world is a wonderful place but wonder is a muscle that must be cultivated like any other.
It's beautiful. Kudos.
If you're struggling with creative work lately, setting bite-sized goals can help.
"Work on WIP" might feel overwhelming.
But "Revise dialogue in chapter 2" or "Add weather details to opening scene?" We can handle that.
What's your One Small Thing for today? Set a 20-minute timer & get started!
It's really pretty. All the colors.
