Run your hand or a thin piece of tissue around potential problem areas (🚽) A spot where you feel a steady airflow or see the tissue flutter is likely where the seal is broken. Once you’ve identified the leak, you can seal it properly and say goodbye to unwanted odors in your indoor air for good. 💨
By doing this, you create negative pressure in your home. The airflow will naturally move from the bathroom’s gaps toward the range hood. Since the exhaust fan is running at full power, the air movement through any hidden cracks or gaps will be strong enough for you to feel.
How can you locate them quickly? Here’s a simple yet effective method, especially for apartments or smaller homes:
-Close all doors and windows in your home to seal the space
-Leave only the bathroom door open
-Turn on the range hood (exhaust fan) in the kitchen and set it to the highest speed
Improving IEQ in your home 🏠 🏢: If you’ve noticed a persistent unpleasant odor in your bathroom, the culprit is often a small gap in the drainage system. These gaps can be found around the toilet, floor drain, sink drain pipe, or others. The challenge? These gaps are usually too small to spot.

Nazaroff et al. (ES&T) argue indoor air isn’t “outdoor air, diluted” — it’s actively transformed by sources, surfaces, oxidants (esp. ozone) and our own “human envelope.” Key research directions follow below 👇
