I don't think there has ever been a technology that has caused so much negative influence in my life as GenAI.
It is touching every aspect of my life: work, education, personal life, interests, etc. And always in negative ways.

When the Generative AI bubble inevitably bursts, can we please stop taking tech's "Trust me, Bro" promises seriously?

The last truly transformative innovation was the smart phone 20 years ago!
Picture how big the Hoover Dam is. An absolute unit. The Hoover Dam has a power capacity of 2 gigawatts (GW).
The solar farm that the Admin just cancelled could have produces 6.2 GW of power. That's more than 3 Hoover Dams.
Hades felt like a perfect game when it came out. And it was!
But somehow Hades 2 is even more perfect. It's bigger with more characters, lots more to do, and more refined systems.
@supergiantgames.bsky.social knows what it's doing.

A picture of a Google maps schedule for 3h45m - it shows a combo of Lyft, bus, walking and trains
My mid-sized Texas city (250k people) has ZERO public transit.
I checked the options for a trip 10 miles away (~20 min by car).
Google gave me this as the best option:
3h45m - a combo of Lyft, Greyhound, walking, a train in another city, and waiting
USA has an insane car bias. #transit #trains
The dilemma of being a progressive in Texas: do you abandon ship because it's too far gone or do you stay and make things better for those who come after?
Personal happiness/comfort versus societal good.
It super sucks here right now.

I know it's the least important thing but all the fake gold in the Oval Office is the tackiest shit possible.
It's not meant to be the bedchambers of a mad king with syphilitic dementia.
The order of science:
1.) Discover there’s a deadly problem
2.) Work for years to solve it
3.) The problem may not be gone forever, but we’ve won
4.) People forget the deadly problem actually existed
5.) People decide this must mean the science to solve it was a hoax
6.) The deadly problem returns
Found at our local Trader Joe's. Pretty sure that's not how this works.
It looks like it's trying to be stylized hiragana or something. Nothing like hangul. Failed on all fronts!
I love it in JRPGs when a character says something like "Oh, I don't remember anything from way back when. I am but an old man after all"
Then the character bio says they are 32 years old.
This is a war funding bill, but the enemy isn't Iran or Russia or China, it's you, the American people
“ICE gets a bigger budget than the Marine Corps” is a simple fact that should be communicated very widely because it clearly expresses how crazy and radical this is
About 5 hours into #DeathStranding2 and the quality of life changes are fantastic.
Plotting routes, picking up items from a vehicle, easier fabrication and cargo management, meaningful skills, etc.
LinkedIn has always been the worst social network. And that's a big accomplishment given its competition.
my column/essay this week is on the administration's war on the future, what that means, and the obligation anti-trump americans have to articulate a robust vision of an egalitarian future in response. read/share/etc.

Eurovision came way too close to a disastrous result. Israel needs to be banned for multiple reasons but their televote manipulation is ridiculous.
Does AI have dirt on this guy? His takes have been completely unhinged lately.
Duolingo has also been getting steadily worse. It is not a great tool for language learning. It's a game. The way it handles ads and hearts is 100% mobile game BS.

It really feels like we are rapidly approaching the point where more text on the Internet is generated by AI than written by humans. The amount of AI slop I accidentally encounter on a daily basis is staggering.
The more AI models train on their own excretions, the worse they get.
Kroger Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips prices at $4.69 for 24 ounces
Kroger Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips prices at $8.49 for 24 ounces
Crazy realization at the grocery store. Chocolate prices seem like they doubled recently.
The first pic is from June 2023 and the other is from today. Same product and size both store brand. About 80% more $.
Replaying Death Stranding to get ready for DS2. It is still one of the most atmospheric games I've ever played. When the music kicks in during a long order, it's just perfect.
Can't wait for DS2!

*Of course* advance information on US combat operations is classified. Pretending otherwise is an insult to our troops, who all know this.
The Secretary is unfit to lead.
RFK Jr. says HHS will determine the cause of autism by September
Science does not work like this. The only way you can set a timeline is if you have rigged the results in advance.
We need bookstores and libraries that are open throughout the night so that weirdos like me can fill our book addiction in the cover of darkness.
I would browse for hours if I could go at midnight.
I hope this sets off a trend of new couch co-op games. Split Fiction and It Takes Two are both excellent.
Some of my favorite gaming experiences in the last few years.

scene from Porco Rosso; a man in a blue uniform sits next to an anthropomorphic pig in a trenchcoat, sunglasses, and hat; the pig is saying "I'd rather be a pig than a fascist."
Seeing a lot of genAI art used in the service of fascism lately
AI generated image of woman being arrested in an anime style. Posted by The White House on Twitter
This is bleak on at least 200 different levels.
What the fuck is wrong with people?
AI proponents when they are accused of stealing art: "AI creates new works so it is fair use"
All other times: "Remake this famous photo in the style of Studio Ghibli LOL"
I hate it and it is a fundamental misunderstanding of what makes Studio Ghibli so exceptional. The human element is key.
It is insane how enshittified all tech is right now.
Want a new phone: "Our new $1400 phone comes with AI! It will provide recipes that lead to inedible food!"
Search: "Here is 1 result and 1140 ads"
Streaming: "Watch these 4 min ads to get access to 1 min of TV!"
We should all be furious.
I am going through Double Fine PsychOdyssey (slowly) and it's the best workplace documentary I've ever encountered.
Easily the best in class in video game documentaries.
I have no idea how @2playerproductions.bsky.social edited this!
