Ah shit, here we go again
It could be that they care about proper typography, or that they use software that enforces typography rules (MS Word and Libreoffice Writer do). ChatGPT did not invent em dashes, you know?
Lovely artwork โจ

But it seems like most email providers did not get the memo and continue (even today) to say that 587 is the best option and 465 is deprecated.
I was thinking again earlier this week that emails are the most troublesome thing in IT, and again I was not deceived ๐ต
From what I understood, the answer is that, **as of 2025**, 465 should be the preferred option (makes sense, since it is always encrypted).
But for a long time, 465 was more like a draft and eventually got considered deprecated before it was brought back alive by RFC 8314 in 2018
Today, while configuring a printer to send emails for document scans, I wondered (again) if I should use port 465 (SSL/TLS) or port 587 (STARTTLS) for SMTP communications, but this time I took the time to actually read the full story behind it.
And clearly, I was not ready for that ๐คฏ

You know the term "AI" has gone completely meaningless when Kurzgesagt describes the auto-align feature of Adobe Illustrator as AI
I will also add that "tracking" itself is not an evil concept... I definitely agree that sometimes tracking goes way too far, but knowing for example how many people came from a specific platform or social media is very useful if you are a creator or a business, and is purely statistical.
Removing them blindly (aside from well-known tracking variables with a specific name) may prevent the page from working properly.
An example is Discord, that uses query parameters in its file links to prevent them from being hotlinked. Removing them from a Discord link makes the link stop working.
This is very inaccurate advice.
Despite query parameters (the actual names of things after the "?") are used a lot for tracking, they also have a lot of legitimate uses, such as specifying the current page, search filters, or just any other data potentially useful for a web page.
I remember the exact same thing happening as well to me several years ago. Not sure what it was as well, probably a short circuit? (that was on line 8)
