3 white men in their 20s attempted to lynch 3 Black men for....fishing last Friday. The only reason it's an attempted murder charge is one of the Black men was armed and a better shot. It's not about the year someone was born, it's about the racism

all-and-all sounds like it was a shitshow behind the scenes and it kinda shows in the mean-spiritedness of the humor; 3/10 except for Troy and Abed
if the show had been about them it would've been a lot better
also I read in the trivia that Chevy Chase was a huge racist dick to Donald Glover on and off set and nothing was done about it I guess which is super cool
apparently the lead writer/creator also got fired from his own show after S3 and was "difficult to work with" (which is code for asshole)
Abed was a caricature of an autistic person (robotically analytical, out-of-touch with reality) and I still preferred him as a character (esp paired with Troy, they had great comedic chemistry) over any of the others
the humor felt very Gen X South Park-y in that the majority of jokes were:
Character 1: *says something bigoted*
Character 2: *gasps and points out that's bigoted*
rinse, repeat
I watched the first two seasons and that was all I could stand
so I tried to give Community a watch since I missed its zeitgeist and I...really didn't like it, aside from Troy and Abed bits
really hated Jeff, Britta, Pierce (obvs), and Shirley, and was indifferent to Annie until they started tease-shipping her with Jeff and then I was out completely
Mine is how he relentlessly pursued Ona Judge who was a fugitive slave of Mount Vernon all of her life but he never caught her 🥰
The fact that nobody seriously believes there is an institution in this country that will check the president—that we’re all just sitting here hoping that he gets distracted and fails to follow through on his genocidal threats—is the most damning indictment of our political system I’ve seen yet.
Reminder that absolutely nothing Trump has ever done is unprecedented. The US already did, 76 years ago, exactly what he is threatening to do.

Post by bookwyytch in Book Threads: "Children should not be reading adult romances! Had a 12 year old child looking for the raunchiest books we have. We warned grandma of the content and we're told she reads this stuff all the time. Excuse me/ But then gran actually reads the back and won't let her buy anything. Little girl is whining about how she's read haunting adeline and a customer exclaims saying she's read that recently and she's in her 30s. We are happy to sell books but we will not sell prn [sic: porn] to kids."
The problem with this argument is manifold.
a) You're conflating 'adult romances' with 'pornography'. There is overlap (at times) but they're not the same.
Many classics are adult romances and not pornography. Tolstoy. Jane Eyre. Elizabeth Gaskell. Daphne du Maurier. D.H. Lawrence.
Oh my gd, the Artemis II crew doing a parody of a bad 1980s sitcom intro from in space.

We only had a tiny group for last weekend's Disability Justice workshop, so if you were unable to attend, but could benefit from engaging with the presentation slides on your own time, please do so, as Alice Wong's legacy deserves to be celebrated by all, & writing can offer an insightful option!✍🏾✍🏾✍🏾

One of the ways people deal with cognitive dissonance, desperately trying to minimize it, is to retreat into confirmatory rabbit holes.
They start consuming more media which minimizes that cognitive dissonance, and less media that makes it visible.
every time i write about wage theft i do a double take because it's so crazy
corporations steal more than $50 bn from workers' paychecks each year, illegally paying workers less than they earned for their labor
that significantly exceeds the combined losses from larceny, burglary, & vehicle theft
I’m at risk of losing my housing and having my electricity shut off.
Everything is due tomorrow.
Rent is $900, and with electric + my car payment I need $2,000 total.
I’m running out of time and I’m honestly scared.

This sounds like a conspiracy theory, but it’s absolutely true. If you go on Twitter right now, it is easy to find bot accounts constantly posting about how awful Chappell Roan is. The tweets are copy-pasted and identical. It’s not even subtle.
You don’t have to believe me, go check for yourself.
trans can be nonbinary. trans can reject gender altogether. trans can be someone who uses any combination of pronouns. trans can be no hrt or surgery. trans can be whatever you want it to be.
happy trans day of visibility to everyone who identifies as trans, no matter what that means for you! 🏳️⚧️💖💕
Fucking horrendous. Is this worth your cartoon avatar? Your crap logo? Stop. Using. AI.
Assign outside LA City Hall that says the future is renewable energy not wars for oil
Honestly, optimistic. I support. #NoKings
The people who get the maddest about automated traffic enforcement are the ones who have benefited from this in the past and want to benefit from it in the future. What did you think the PBA stickers they send you to put in your window for your donation were supposed to do?
it probably isn't helping anyone's mental state that the news every morning is like "Things Have Gotten Much Worse Again! Further, No Sign of Anyone Attempting to Stop It" great thanks
A major failing of restorative justice when it's taken out of its original context (which is as an alternative to carceral systems) is that abusers often have way more energy to spend on staying in communities that enable them than victims have for staying in communities where they're not safe.
We don't just say this to be scolds or more righteous than thou or ruin your good time or police your language. We say this to let you know it's actually contributing to harm of those of us who bear so much of society's harm. You should want to harm us less.
