Anyone can take any panel and wire it with a plug. It’s all over YouTube (I think they are removing those videos) and Facebook. Facebook is full of comments like ‘power co can’t tell me what to plug in my house…’

Legal panels are legal to install right now. Panels that back feed into the grid need permits. Right now people are installing plug in solar they made simply by add a plug without mechanisms to switch it off when the grid goes down.

If made legal here it will not stop people retrofitting non safe cheap panels and hooking them up directly into an outlet as mentioned in the article. German people are more understanding/accepting of regulations and rules.

Germany has implemented standards and limit power for plug in solar making them safer. Problem is the US was a dumping ground for ultra cheap solar panels that don’t meet any safety standards. This means US will have to buy new safety panels that are now heavily tariffed and very expensive.

You are plugging into extract power. Plugging in solar panel you are adding power back into the grid. This means line men will die and you also have an energized power cable with an exposed prongs with 100-1000+ watts at 1-3 amps. The panel ALWAYS generates power with light (even indoors).

A kid that unplugs the panel touched the prongs will will get a lethal dose of 100-400+ watts at 1-3 amps. A normal power cord the prongs are not energized when unplugged.
