Looks like sci-fi but the future is here now. Let's embrace the transformation!

📈Why is there is upward trend in billion-dollar disasters?
1. There is a growing number of people, homes, and businesses exposed to these hazards.
2. Climate change is causing an increase in frequency and intensity of certain types of extreme weather.
That's a bad combo.

Trump moves to dismantle major US climate research center in Colorado The Trump administration is breaking up the National Center for Atmospheric Research, taking aim at one of the world's leading climate research labs.

NCAR is quite literally our global mothership.

Everyone who works in climate and weather has passed through its doors and benefited from its incredible resources.

Dismantling NCAR is like taking a sledgehammer to the keystone holding up our scientific understanding of the planet.

Unbelievable.

What issues matter most to #Voters? 😬

@gefjonoff.bsky.social & @fedetrastulli.bsky.social study 6 European countries to find that different groups care about different issues--and that what people care about isn’t the same as what they think about those issues. 🧭🗳️

What is the most profitable industry in the world, this side of the law? Not oil, not IT, not pharma.

It's *scientific publishing*.

We call this the Drain of Scientific Publishing.

Some small signs of hope in Germany too: People in Hamburg voted for a more ambitious and socially just climate law a few weeks ago

Yes, I wonder about that too

Thanks for sharing. I think many people find it difficult to relate to "600-700 times more likely", particularly as the baseline is missing, i.e. how likely were those storms before climate change.

If I may ask, what do you think about the imprecision in the info (600-700 times more likely)?

To my followers: What do you think about messages like this? Are they understandable, useful and credible?

Focusing on Sweden, this study finds that PhD students begin their programs with similar psychiatric medication use as other master’s graduates, but usage rises sharply to about 40 percent higher by the fifth year before declining after graduation.

Hamburg just said YES in the climate referendum! ♥️
Thanks to everyone who fought for it.
This vote matters for Hamburg – and sends a strong signal far beyond.
The climate issue is alive: we can set the agenda and win!

Another lesson: climate action must go hand in hand with social justice.

The image presents a comparison of the leading causes of death in the United States for 2023 and the media coverage these causes receive from three news outlets: The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Fox News.

In the footer, it notes the data sources, indicating that the information is based on media mentions from Media Cloud (2025) and death data from the US CDC (2025) and the Global Terrorism Index, with a clarification that values are normalized to sum to 100%.

In a UN speech today, President Trump said that "all of these [climate] predictions were wrong".

Back in 2019 I led a research effort to digitize old climate model projections and assess how well they did. Turns out they got future warming pretty spot on!

Of course I heard a bit about it before but only today I really started looking into the business of academic publishers. Omfg. It's one of the most absurd appropriations of public money and voluntary work for insane private profits that I ever heard of. How are we all participating in this system?
