Paul Taylor · Llamas, Pizzas, Mandolins: AI Doomerism A great deal of importance seems to be attached to preventing models from generating harmful content if used...

Reminds me of this quote from @paul3548.bsky.social

"... instead of being astonished at how powerful they are, it’s possible that we should be surprised that the generation of language that is meaningful to us turns out to be something that can be accomplished without real comprehension."

Could AI slow science? Confronting the production-progress paradox

Fabulous post by @randomwalker.bsky.social & Sayash raising the same concern many of us have about whether we're on the right track with how we're using AI for science. Everyone should read it, take a deep breath & think through the implications.

Quite a few parallels here with the sovereign citizen movement across the pond. When do we start whipping up our own distinctly British conspiracy theories - no imports needed?

Note to No 10: one speed doesn’t fit all when it comes to online safety | John Naughton Legislation to protect children in the digital realm is essential. But if it results in the loss of small cycling and cancer-care forums, something’s gone wrong

What should we do when access frictions between disabled people emerge with new active travel infrastructure like bus stop bypasses?

Is removing them really the best solution?

I propose collective access making instead.
