Viola Davis so happy about Michael B. Jordan winning a SAG award that she transcends time space and white supremacy.

Good luck to all the nominees tonight! (And apologies for any errors, I forgot the awards were tonight and had to do this pretty hastily 😅)

As another fun statistic, Leonardo DiCaprio earned a new record for most total nominations in the category at 8. He was previously nominated for Marvin's Room, Titanic, The Aviator, The Departed, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Don't Look Up, & Killers of the Flower Moon.

He has yet to win.

Our final possibility, Michael B. Jordan, already has a trophy for the only superhero movie to win the category, Black Panther. A win for Sinners would mark the first horror film.

Benecio del Toro could also capture that record. Traffic and One Battle After’s 25 year split is more than double the current record.

The film with which it shares that tie, Shakespeare in Love, could also break it. Gwyneth Paltrow is nominated again with the cast of Marty Supreme, which would mark the longest gap between wins of any actor.

Another Gosford Park alum, Emily Watson, is part of the cast of Hamnet. GP is currently tied for most cast members to have won the category multiple times, with four (Michael Gambon, Derek Jacobi, Kelly Macdonald and Ryan Phillippe)

His Frankenstein costar, Charles Dance, won his first as part of the cast of Gosford Park. That film boasts the largest cast to ever win the category.

Christoph Waltz won his first for Inglourious Basterds, and his nomination with the ensemble of Frankenstein is only his second time in the category.

My favorite awards season deep dive: actors with multiple awards for The Actor Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. Last year Stanley Tucci (Conclave) won his second, and tonight one person will become the 20th to pull off the feat (with the possibility of a 21st as well)

I know there were a LOT of issues with the HFPA, but I miss when the television categories at the Golden Globes were bizarre and Glen Powell would’ve absolutely won for Chad Powers

I love a good award show speech. And Teyana Taylor and Stellan Skarsgård just delivered two great ones to start off the Golden Globes.

I’m watching The Traitors, and I need two things to happen:
1. Maura to make it to the end.
2. Emma Stone to host SNL this spring.

I miss the days of Tresselball where Ohio State fans could reliably count on three points if the kick was anything less than 52 yards

epic will pay for every game that gets claimed this way so yes, you are still giving money to rowling (and by extension an international campaign against trans people) by claiming this

there are other, better franchises - let this one go

Can we please discontinue the Golden Globe for Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement? We’re three years in and it’s already broken

An unexpectedly potent Thanksgiving Eve double feature. The institutions are broken, but there may be hope? I cried at both, and I’m not ashamed

The logic of algorithms tends to repeat what “works,” but art opens up what is possible. Not everything has to be immediate or predictable. Defend slowness when it serves a purpose, silence when it speaks and difference when evocative. Beauty is not just a means of escape; it is above all an invocation. When cinema is authentic, it does not merely console, but challenges. It articulates the questions that dwell within us, and sometimes, even provokes tears that we did not know we needed to express.

Some inspiring words on cinema in the streaming era from the Pope.

Yes, THAT Pope.

My apologies to Indiana. Ohio State would’ve just rolled over and lost that game

As an Ohio State alum, I was expecting an upset of a Top 2 ranked B1G team this week. It just wasn’t the one that’s happening.
