As another "guy who went somewhere once (or a few times)" this was also my experience in Ireland, France & Germany. Grocery store or local bakery.
Looks like some smart person took my advice...
A cartoon from the 1950’s that’s more relevant than ever 💔
In next month's Criterion lineup is a movie that I saw in my teens, on some channel late at night. For years I couldn't find anyone who knew of this movie nor could I find a copy to buy or rent. I started to think I had hallucinated it.

I think I was unaware of some of the cultural context with Cloud, because I'm aware of a slight distaste for resellers here in the States, but the movie portrays the resellers having a reputation on par with the lowest of unsavory criminals.
We watched the last Kiyoshi Kurosawa film "Cloud," I looked up the lead actor's filmography and his first 6-7 credits were all Kamen Rider as Kamen Rider W.
We've been watching / rewatching all of Peter Weir's films (highly recommended) and with a couple exceptions they are full of sweaty people in real locations.
So they're only going to publish genre fiction in trade paperback or hardcover? Bleah.
The cat almost looks like a Woodwick.
Jen Sorensen nails the hypocrisy and racism of the "European culture" argument.
RFK has dropped the meningitis vaccine from the CDC's vaccine schedule.
Holy f**king hell.
Meningitis can kill a child in HOURS. Survivors sometimes suffer brain damage, amputation.
Every politician in DC who is not taking action to remove him is threatening lives.
HOLY. HELL.
The full spiked 60 Minutes CECOT package, clean & subtitled. 1/5
The person who made the decision to hold this story has never been a news reporter or a news editor. Really sickening.
As Ta-Nehisi Coates said, "Either you're cowards or you're with him, and if you're with him, you never believed in the things you were talking about to begin with."
Even that no holds barred match between Maria Abramovic & Francis Alys at the Whitney Museum?
Rick Steves. Good guy.
100% they're just going to show PragerU horseshit on the station now.
If I’m understanding this correctly, X is owned by a white nationalist who pays poor people of color in developing countries to pretend to be working class white Americans to scare other white Americans into being afraid poor people of color from developing countries are going to ruin America?
We really are the dumbest country run by the dumbest people.
The exhibit I co-curated at The Billy Ireland, Motion Lines: How Cartoonsts draw Movement, closed this past weekend... but if you missed it there's now this great online version--one of the very few they've done this for!

What the hell are we doing?
Oh boy, I overheard another great set of takes from the art school students / recent grads here in town. I guess Ari Aster is the greatest filmmaker ever and Quentin Tarantino is like, so like, boring and like, terrible.
Hmm...Advance Publications owns Teen Vogue and 30% of reddit...and just before this election the journalists at Teen Vogue are axed and Reddit is shut down?
Somebody else gets it.
Ironic that the journalism at Teen Vogue would be gutted under the direction of Murphy Brown's daughter.
Slowly transforming into a Christian Dotremont-like logogram from the CoBrA art movement.
