Boomers overall still voted for Trump, people under 50 did not.
Many friends of mine (in the mid 30s to 40s) are reckoning with their parents voting for Trump and indeed even telling them "I already fought my battles".
We mention it because we have firsthand experience with it.

90% of "government waste" is people who just don't understand the thing, not actual waste.
I remember McCain using fruit fly research as an example of waste when he was running, which is clearly insane to any biologist.
