Tweet by Martina Navratilova. "Predator. That is how he should register. A sexual predator…" quote-tweeting a tweet by "Biology Rules OK" about Dr. Beth Upton, a trans woman

This tweet is highly defamatory and Martina Navratilova should be fired from BBC Sport for it.

It demonstrates an horrendous level of hatred for a trans woman (who was cleared of all wrongdoing in a recent tribunal) because she is a trans woman.

Open access to "The Palestinians: From Peasants to Revolutionaries," by my amazing mother, Rosemary Sayigh, who turned an impressive 99 this month. Published in 1979, it went thru several reprints & translations and remains a landmark book:

At a time when mass surveillance and autonomous weapons companies like Palantir are openly announcing their plans for violent world domination, it is crucial that our attempts at “big tech reform” don’t actually give them more power—ie via government mandated age verification/identity software

The Palentir statement on its desired “Technological Republic” is one of the scariest things I have seen in a while. It is a call for a world dominated by an authoritarian U.S., generated by AI (both the statement and the world), run by tech-surveillance companies. Technofascism pure!

personally I agree that we should indeed reject the hollow pluralism of pretending that we shouldn't judge Klan, Nazi, and sparkling eugenicist subcultures according to what they have historically produced, and would enthusiastically endorse rejecting inclusion of them in public life

There are multiple bullet points about how necessary it is to not criticize tech elites or scrutinize their actions.

They want to make it illegal to do anything other than praise them.

Today, a lot of people will be talking about the manifesto that Palantir released. In addition to pouring over what those words mean, I invite you to ground the conversation in what Palantir has already done.

Its work with Israel and ICE show us exactly what it stands for.

Because we get asked a lot.

The Technological Republic, in brief.

1. Silicon Valley owes a moral debt to the country that made its rise possible. The engineering elite of Silicon Valley has an affirmative obligation to participate in the defense of the nation.

2. We must rebel against the tyranny of the apps. Is the iPhone our greatest creative if not crowning achievement as a civilization? The object has changed our lives, but it may also now be limiting and constraining our sense of the possible.

3. Free email is not enough. The decadence of a culture or civilization, and indeed its ruling class, will be forgiven only if that culture is capable of delivering economic growth and security for the public.

4. The limits of soft power, of soaring rhetoric alone, have been exposed. The ability of free and democratic societies to prevail requires something more than moral appeal. It requires hard power, and hard power in this century will be built on software.

Palantir put out a 22-point summary of their CEO's book The Technological Republic. It's pitched as a defence of the West, but if you read it through the VDA framework, verification, deliberation, accountability, what it's actually doing looks rather different.

Palantir put out the most cartoonishly evil statement possible. They’re so arrogant and self-confident they don’t seem to believe their fascistic plans can be opposed.

We must get rid of Palantir altogether.

the thing about our current moment is that yes, the anti-AI and anti-big tech people are getting very reactive nowadays - but have you seen what they’re *reacting* to?

It includes inmates, parolees, people awaiting trial, people with felonies. Anyone who has to deal with the blunt end of the justice system in any way whatsoever.

It couldn't be more literal! Treating this innocuous technical term like it's some obscurantist jargon is ridiculous and dishonest. 2/2

As someone who regularly teaches in a jail and *HAS* actually used "justice-involved" both in speech and in my resume,

I feel like today's discourse would probably benefit from the additional fact that "justice-involved" isn't a synonym of "inmate"...

Plus, in my understanding, the term is broader than "inmates" and includes people on home arrest, on parole, on bail, etc. it's not a PC synonym; it's a completely different term.

I'm sorry, but this is utterly unacceptable from Stonewall's new Chair. And entirely unnecessary. Nothing is gained from this except communicating to trans people that Stonewall does not care about them.

If a gangster got shot by a rival gangster, you can agree he "got it coming" without outright supporting murder. Acknowldging that some actions have natural consequences doesn't absolve the intermediate agents of said consequence.

Surely there's a way to place 9/11 in the context of a justified blowback against worse actions by the american empire without going all the way to "gotta hand it to al-qaida".

ChatGPT is not a person, correct. ChatGPT is, however, white as hell.

In whiteness studies, critical race theory, and critical phenomenology of race, we tend to treat whiteness as an overarching political, economic, and social structure that organizes the concept of "race" broadly construed.
