I believe you! She used to follow me too - she used to be very active on Twitter and responsive to her followers. That was probably the worst part about deactivating my account.

Anyway, Paul Gauguin walks into a pub and sees Vincent Van Gogh sitting there, so he says “Oi, Vincent, can I get you a pint?” and Van Gogh replies “No thanks, Paul, I’ve got one ‘ere”

Je déclare ouverte ma liste personnelle de one-panel-comics préférés.
Pour marquer sa subjectivité elle commencera par la Joconde des one-panel, à savoir "Cow Tools", par Gary Larson.

But you’re not laughing at hypocrisy, you’re specifically attacking his height. Rogan’s a complete shit, but if he was a person with dwarfism, would you be making fun of that?

1 day ago 1 0 2 0

Exactly - and would they be doing it if Rogan and Bovino were people with dwarfism? One would have to hope not. Calling people “Li’l” is something Trump does out of spite when he wants to belittle a political opponent; it’s beyond me why so many progressives would want to behave the same way.

I was really disappointed to see Jamelle Bouie do this a couple of months ago apropos of Greg Bovino and then double down when someone called him out for it 🙁

Funnily enough, I bought my copy of Moby Dick at Shakespeare & Co. in Paris back in the late 80s (I feel a bit cringy about that now) and read it rather arduously through Austria and Bulgaria and all the other stuff you have to get through when you travel by train from Paris to Istanbul

VINCENT: So while I was in Paris, I went to Five Guys.
JULES: They got Five Guys in Paris?
VINCENT: Yeah, but they call it Cinq Mecs.

Process video for the witch hare linocut illustration I posted last week.

I don’t post as many linocut process videos these days but @martinnutbeem.bsky.social reminded me some people still enjoy them.

The narrative setup is so good, and yet they keep trying to undo it. I yearn for the days when Lois didn’t know Clark and Superman are the same person, because it’s such a powerful driver of the stories. As Elliot S. Maggin put it: “Clark loved Lois. Lois loved Superman. Superman loved Clark.”

Yes, I never played it but I do remember reading a review and thinking that this was a pretty nifty mechanic.

It’s always been a source of annoyance to me when video game developers (like Rocksteady) claim you can’t make a good Superman game because he’s invulnerable, as if all he does is fight. I’d happily play a game about him doing zany stuff to hide his secret identity from Lois Lane

This has been much on my mind for a few weeks now since I heard the This F*cking Guy podcast about Greg Bovino and realised it was basically one long tirade about his height with a brief interlude in the middle to say “no offense to our short kings”

That’s not the point, though, is it? You’re making fun of his height, not the fact that he’s a fascist.

On a related note, anyone who prefaces a comment like this with the words “no disrespect to my short kings” is asking for a spanking

It’s absolutely baffling how people in a space like Bluesky, where you would hope most users agree that bodyshaming of all stripes should be out of bounds, seem happy to comment on Greg Bovino and Joe Rogan’s height. Why is that okay? Would they be doing it if these were persons with dwarfism?

2 days ago 0 0 0 1

so… I thought we hated Bovino because of his actions, not because he’s short?

i’m just checking, do we hate short people now? (i have short kids)

or is it OK to make fun of someone’s appearance if we don’t like them?

is it ok if someone mocks my appearance, as long as they think i’m a bad person?

Why is it okay to height shame people? Would you say this if he was a person with dwarfism?

Making AI art is like instead of going out for an evening with friends, talking, and doing the really nice meal followed by dessert and then lazing about in a park nearby swearing at bats - you just press a button and suddenly you're so full you could burst and have rabies.

AI executives can only promise to build a digital god that might destroy the world, declare that they're going to replace a vast swath of everyone's jobs, and work directly to subvert democracy for so long before people, some of whom *take their words at face value*, will decide to act.

Why the AI backlash has turned violent And why it's probably only going to get worse from here.

Last week, a 20 year-old man threw a molotov cocktail at Sam Altman's mansion; two days later, people fired a gun at it. Earlier that week, someone fired gunshots into an city councilman's house who approved a data center.
