There is a Japanese word shin 真 that means "truth" that they're probably thinking of, but again, Japanese romanization does not use the letter X, and Chinese pinyin is the main source of X pronounced "sh" for English speakers, so this is a very bizarre piece of misinformation to be going around.

I've seen multiple articles claim that the name of the Luce & Friends character Xin "means 'truth' in Japanese" 😭 This is not only wrong, it's EXTREMELY wrong. Japanese romanization does not use the letter X, so there's no way it could be correct! Xìn 信 means "faith" in Mandarin Chinese.
So glad I wrote this up because TWC is back on their bullshit and I need to call them again
Please use alt text in the future, this thread explains why and how
I'm not sure people have really appreciate how lucky the US has been to have Lina Khan at the FTC. Her likely replacement, Andrew Ferguson, has been pretty clear that he's not too interested in doing stuff like this.
You can make $trillions/year immediately as a religious leader, and you unironically need zero experience or capital.
The steps are simple.
1. Become auxiliary bishop of Los Angeles
2. Start a publisher dedicated to your spirituality
3. Give yourself permission to found a new order of priests
Great, he wants to make a sequel to the Franciscan Missionaries of the Eternal Word 😭
Singular "themselves" is at least a thing, even if "themself" is far superior, but yeah, using the verb like that is just wrong no matter how you slice it
This would be very easily solved by the simple realization that you do not, in fact, "gotta hand it to them"
Your existence as an LGBTQ+ Catholic is not a sin.
We are all made in God’s image.
Adoption is a parenting decision.
Abortion is a healthcare decision.
(And I say "almost everything" because I've seen attempts to lump recommendation algorithms [which aren't necessarily ANNs] into "AI" as well. Broadly, everything that's called "AI" is some kind of machine learning, but basically all of the generative models that get touted as The Future are ANNs.)
And since this is such an excellent anti-propaganda point, I'd like to piggyback and add for anyone reading who'd like to avoid calling it "AI" as well: almost everything that's called "AI" is one of these.

The term 'hallucination' itself is propaganda.
When a computer makes a mistake we call it an error. Calling them "Hallucination" is applying undue personhood to this "word predictor machine".
(they aren't)
As a public service I would like to share that I have solved the Texas Workforce Commission's Unemployment Benefits Tele-Center 🧵
@boytheo.bsky.social @marxistpapist.bsky.social y'all will love this
If I got to design a church, this is what I'd put in there (this is why no one lets me design a church)
Vae divitibus (Woe to the rich)
Vae quibus nunc saturamini (Woe to you who are filled now)
Vae quibus nunc ridetis (Woe to you who are laughing now)
Vae quibus bene dicimini (Woe to you who are spoken well of)
Beati pauperes (Blessed are the poor)
Beati qui nunc esuritis (Blessed are you who are hungry now)
Beati qui nunc fletis (Blessed are you who weep now)
Beati qui in odio estis (Blessed are you who are hated)
Beati separati (Blessed are the excluded)
Beati exprobrati (Blessed are the insulted)
I've had the idea in my head for a while to do this same concept with Luke's Beatitudes including the Woes, and today I finally actually worked out what that would look like and it actually goes way harder than I even realized it would
Beati pacifici (Blessed are the peacemakers)
Beati persecuti (Blessed are the persecuted)
Beati maledicti (Blessed are the reviled)
Gaudete merces in caelis (Rejoice, [your] reward [will be great] in heaven)
Beati pauperes spiritu (Blessed are the poor in spirit)
Beati qui lugent (Blessed are those who mourn)
Beati mites (Blessed are the meek)
Beati justi (Blessed are the just)
Beati misericordes (Blessed are the merciful)
Beati mundo corde (Blessed are the pure in heart)
So the church I go to (St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica in Beaumont, Texas) has an abbreviated form of the Beatitudes from the Gospel of Matthew below the clerestory windows
我不清楚的双关语吗😭
I'm joining the trend because this is *endlessly* sociologically fascinating. Like, this could be a fad that ends within a month or two. That seems downright likely! But what if it doesn't?
