TLDR; the freeze is real. I've witnessed it firsthand and I've noticed I am more frigid the longer I live in the PNW. I miss that friendliness haha

I've also noticed the longer I've lived outside of California, the less I have a desire to branch out or make new friends at conventions. And its kind of a bummer, because I loved making new friends at cons. I used to come home with several contacts in my phone and now I'm lucky if I get 1.

My wife is from Connecticut and the culture shock when she moved to Washington was huge. There's less small talk and conversation opportunities. We're both neurodivergent, so it's already a struggle, and then having the cultural norm be to stick to your own circle makes it more challenging.

Having lived in multiple states, as well as various cities in BC, there is definitely a huge difference in the PNW. Seattle and Vancouver, BC are both really hard to make new friends unless you have someone already established in the area to introduce you to others.
