Thanks to Bridgette and her nonprofit, Fish in a Tree, I’ve found a group of late-discovered AFAB autists from various walks of life… ⬇️

It’s Monday and I didn’t have to get up before the sun for another heart-function test!
I’m one step closer to a diagnosis of Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), an autonomic nervous system disorder characterized by a fast heart rate and lightheadedness upon standing (+ moving).
Sharing one of my favorite video responses to RFK Jr. and his insistence that #autism is a ‘preventable childhood disease’.

It’s not a disease; science has proven it’s mostly genetic; and it doesn’t magically disappear as you age.

I’ve found quite a few Ipsy and other bags at thrift stores. My favorite find is the YSL pink glossy bag that has pink lips for the zipper pull. It holds my stimming tools and Loop earplugs.

My turn to ‘lol’ because I’ve been doing this for years.
I have a ton of bags in all different sizes. I used to subscribe to Ipsy and would keep the pink bags and use the others as gift bags. I guess I always expected others would love having a small bag to help organize a large purse/tote! 😂
Oh, it’s stealing. LinkedIn has gone from being a useful networking site to a place one goes to collect spam and be repeatedly harassed to buy products, courses, etc.
The only value I was getting out of it this last year or two is there’s a large Neurodivergent network on the site.

✅ Echocardiogram
✅ Two IVs in 7 days for the girl who normally has Autistic meltdown when IV mentioned
✅ Found a new IV guy, no meltdown occurred
✅ Wearable heart monitor
✅ Literal sandpaper used on chest, then alcohol wipe to ensure monitor connects = worse than two IVs
Last Monday was the stress test, this Monday is the echocardiogram and wearable monitor.
I’m one week closer to proving it’s POTS, not heart disease! 💖
And while some may find it odd to be excited, for me, every step closer to an actual diagnosis is a reason to celebrate. 🎉

6. Post-potty training, I have only needed assistance with using the toilet during the week I was in the hospital fighting off death.

I am sick and tired of seeing people within the Autistic community suffer due to a lack of empathy.

And, I agree with you about the suffering children endure in ABA. They don’t need to be taught or forced to ‘fit in’, they need to learn how to live authentically and experience the joy that can come with being Autistic and knowing who you are.
Every human being deserves that opportunity in life.
