🎉 #JavaScript, happy 30th birthday! Who would have thought the future would look like it does today? I've got my own share of problems with you, but then I remember that quote by Bjarne Stroustrup: “There are only two kinds of languages: the ones people complain about and the ones nobody uses”

100% agree on that Arie! It's important to share learnings like these so that we can learn and avoid similar mistakes in the future!

High five accepted (and highly appreciated!), thank you Patrick! ❤️

For almost a year, Sr Software Engineer @ Buffer, Arek Panek lived inside one of the most stubborn product mysteries at Buffer: posts getting “stuck in processing.”

A tiny percentage of updates that were neither sent nor errored. Just stuck.

This became his North Star, & he refused to let it go!

Most people fly these airlines without pre-paid seats and the airline always assigns normal seats first, then front seats, and extra legroom seats are assigned as the last ones. If you check-in late, it's almost given that you'll end up with extra legroom seat!
PS: Please don't use it against me 😜

The secret is to buy flights without seats assigned, and wait till the very last moment for your check-in (usually check-in closes 2 hours before the flight, but be sure to check it!).

Let me share my most precious travel hack for European cheap airlines like Ryanair or Wizzair. As a tall person (1.94m/6'4'') I always crave extra legroom seats, and I get them on most of my flights, for free.

I love inbox 0, but I also love my newsletters, which I don't always have the time to read right when I receive them. What's your way to keep them somewhere afloat and not forget about reading them, while still clearing out your email inbox?

Our actions and how we explain them matter a lot, especially when you're in a position to lead by example.
How do you approach flexibility in your workplace?

One of the most important aspects of a workplace for me is flexibility - I travel a lot, sometimes have to run some errands during the day, and sometimes I just feel the urge to resolve some challenging problem during the weekend.

TS devs, what's your preferred way to work around the lack of async constructors in classes?

I want something that just works and doesn't require me to customize a lot of stuff. Can be self-hosted, and I can also pay for it - I just want to own the data, have my domain, and be able to gather emails from readers. Does it mean Ghost?

Bloggers, what's your CMS of choice nowadays? I was running self-hosted WordPress for many years now, but I'm a bit tired of managing the server and customizing everything - not that I can't, I just don't have time for it.

My AI Skeptic Friends Are All Nuts My smartest friends have bananas arguments about LLM coding.

mikesanroman.bsky.social shared this article with us on Slack and one quote really hit me: <<“I’m sipping rocket fuel right now,” a friend tells me. “The folks on my team who aren’t embracing AI? It’s like they’re standing still.” >> - perfectly summarizes my feelings towards AI skepticism

I was reluctant to use AI in the past, but if you incorporate it into your engineering workflows, magic starts happening. AI creates a new baseline for engineering productivity.

I've recently started testing Cursor with its agent mode (late, but I'm too used to JetBrains) and the effect on my productivity is through the roof. Mythical 10x engineer can be 50x engineer if using it wisely and having context on codebase and business decisions, with good code review of AI code

I'm pretty good at resolving bugs, and doing that fast - attached is the graph of issues resolved for our engineering team, the spike in mid-March is me, and that last, much bigger spike on the right is also me. I surprised even myself. The secret?

Hey @parklore.com! I'm sorry about your experience with this. I just pushed a fix for this one, so it shouldn't be a problem anymore. Sorry about the time it took.

We reached an incredible milestone together during our recent retreat and had the chance to celebrate in person. 🤩

Thanks @why.bsky.team! I'll look into it to see if we're able to somehow use a different pool of IPs, not sure yet how easy it'd be with our infra.

It's on the post/record creation endpoint - using agent.post()
A lot of them (though not all) have got either image or link embeds, so for those it could be uploadBlob.

It looks like genuine growth for us with our Bluesky offering with lots of users signing up recently, which is great! But the rate limits are hurting us a bit especially at popular times (e.g. 2pm UTC when a lot of users want to schedule their posts)

Hey @bsky.app @samuel.bsky.team! Is there any way to apply for an increased rate limits on bsky.social? @buffer.com is hitting RateLimitExceeded sometimes and we get complaints from customers. I've checked it to make sure Buffer users are not spamming, and confirmed we should be ok on this front.

Glad to hear it worked!

It shouldn't be different because PDS resolving happens on our backend layer, but the difference is that now when you type your custom handle & app password when creating a channel - it should successfully connect it. If you'd hit any issues let me know and I'll jump in to see what's up there :)

Hey @zakwinnick.com! It should work now so feel free to give it a try and let me know if you hit any issues! :)

Hey! I'm sorry for a late reply, I was away on holiday. We're testing support for custom PDS right now and plan for general availability in the new year. I've added your account to beta program so you can test it yourself. Let me know if you hit any issues! :)

Does it also happen on your other Bluesky account? I'm asking because it did work for me with the same file, and I'm wondering if disconnect+reconnect would help here? In the meantime, I'll dig further!
