‘Reconstruction plans imposed on Palestinians with the implicit aim of destroying Palestinian life in Gaza demonstrate the reason Lemkin reserved a place for architecture in his conception of the crime of genocide.’

Extra boost for this wonderful thing 🖤
In my experience the principle joy of being a philosopher has been the excuse it provides for reading widely, so at one level I just kinda feel a bit sorry for those so thoroughly analytic-pilled they can’t even imagine that they might be missing out.
Re: the latest discourse, my favourite thing as an undergrad was a reading group run by Nikhil Krishnan dedicated to “schmilosophy”: not exactly philosophy, not exactly not philosophy either - texts by e.g. Susan Sontag, Walter Benjamin, James C. Scott, Melanie Klein, Adam Phillips, Maggie Nelson…
Wild to me that some people are still working with the analytic/Continental distinction - do they not know it has long been superseded by the basically pleasant bureaucrat/sexy murder poet distinction?
Picture of the cover of my book No Place Like Home with a voucher for 30% off. The Voucher number is AUFLY30 to use at global.oup.com/academic
OUP tells me I should share this. And publicise my book. So here it goes. Please read my book. It has a pretty cover. It's cheap (for an academic book) and you can have this discount! Also please review it, somewhere fancy if possible!

Anglo-world philosophers seem to have perfected the ways in which one can conduct anti-trans activism while denying that there is anything anti-trans about it. Jon Pike's recent complaint against one of his colleagues is one case in point. New blog post from me.

@oxfordmutualaid.bsky.social have launched an emergency crowdfunder to pay for urgent emergency repairs to the building they are running their operations out of. The food charity had to temporarily close for safety reasons, while raising funds for repairs. You can support the crowdfunder here:
Today being Trans Day of Visibility means it’s as good a day as any to donate to:

Describing one of the positions as not dead but rather “pining for the fjords” was yesterday’s commentary highlight for me 🦜
A gold flyer announcing that the new issue of Hypatia is now available. The flyer has a detail from the front cover of the journal running along its centre, depicting various abstract women's faces and hair in different shades of blue.
Issue 41.1 of Hypatia has just been published: www.cambridge.org/core/journal...
The front cover of Stanley Cavell’s Pursuits of Happiness: The Hollywood Comedy of Remarriage (Harvard Film Studies). White text on a purple background.
What’s that? A single pursuit of happiness? Pfft
Spent the day running philosophy taster sessions at an outreach event in Tottenham for sixth-formers planning to apply to study humanities at uni, and inspired by this @add-hawk.bsky.social thread we explored arguments for lottocracy - the students were super engaged! Would definitely recommend.
I think it’s even more impressive than that tbh, because Nihal/Dubov/Sarana are all rapid specialists! Dubov’s a former rapid world champ, he’s for sure better than 45th in the world in that format
It occurs to me that we could also possibly have included Megan Drury on “hermeneutical bastardization” (2025) - unfortunately we had a word limit. But if anyone reading this has thoughts on any of these papers, we’d love to hear from you!
Please do!! It’d be great if you could join us :)
@aidanmcglynn.bsky.social @feministphilosophy.bsky.social @calebw.bsky.social @sigridwallaert.bsky.social @nonamename.bsky.social could you possibly help me spread the word with a repost?

A friend has brought to my attention the Belgian footballer Mark de Man, who appropriately played at centre-back
I’m obsessed - he’s overtaken the Russian hurdler Marina Stepanova (steppin’ over, geddit?) as my favourite nominatively determined sportsperson.
One of the best things about my job is that sometimes Isambard the Library Cat hangs out with me in the philosophy section www.bbc.co.uk/news/videos/...

A reminder that I made a starter pack for philosophers who work on intimacy and relationships: go.bsky.app/AjUr2VS let me know if you want to be added! Please share.
In the wake of the Gorton and Denton result, I saw so many Labour MPs saying “our base is angry at us for not implementing enough progressive policies”. But the biggest reason for anger is not the progressive policies they haven’t implemented, it’s the reactionary policies they have implemented.
