I just read two of the big classics of Balkan literature lately, The Bridge On the Drina by Ivo Andrić and Alamut by Vladimir Bartol, and, unsurprinsingly, these might well be two of the most insightful novels to shed some light on our present times
OK, fair enough, I was not aware of that. But that raises other issues about internet philosophy, that I will gladly keep to myself!
The main problem with this piece is that it is totally self-serving. Everything said there has already been said, and much better said, in the 80's and 90's by the likes of K. Mulligan and M. Nussbaum. Which points to one of "analytic" phil's own flaw: reinventing the wheel and being proud of it
Absolutely disagree. Training in CFOL is essential to get a serious grip on core notions like logical consequence, quantifier vs individual constant, or intensional operator. Doing philosophy without such notions would be a serious throwback. What we really need is more logical literacy beyond CFOL
I met Ivan Novak backstage at a Young Gods show in Ljubljana 2 weeks ago. I am sure he would approve!
Whenever I am having this discussion with someone, I use this slightly niche example: this song in its original version (youtu.be/McWvOFzajzk?...) and in its rerecorded version a few years later (nickporsche.bandcamp.com/album/big-fi...)
You might know that in France they have the so-called "theorem" of "Gödel-Debray," after Régis Debray, that applies to political systems and according to which a political system cannot be justified from within the system (whatever that means...)
I'm sure he got wiser and smarter in the last years.

Absolutely. I visited both Muster and Rebenhof on the same day last july in Steiermark. Distance between them is very short, but the wines couldn't be more different and totally felt like expressions of their makers' personalities
Only took notice now of the death of Malcolm Budd. Never had the chance to meet him, but very fine philosopher. Also, he never replied to my emails, which shows his soundness of judgment.
I dreamed I found a 6 volume PhD thesis on Wittgenstein by ex-cyclist Richard Virenque in an obscure French academic library that also happened to serve good Italian food. The first volume was a historical contextualisation and contained only reproductions of Belle Époque ads for aperitives.
You may laugh, but the Macbeths are a much better role model for a marriage than Romeo and Juliet. They discuss their problems (killing the king of Scotland), share their hobbies (killing the king of Scotland), and resolve their conflicts (by killing the king of Scotland).

Today is philosophy day. Philosophy is hard (as Gareth Evans once put it). But that doesn't mean that, thereby, today is a hard day. How strange.
It has sometimes been my feeling that teleosemanticians think that the real “telos” of teleosemantics is to work…
The legendary Frankfurt School bathing suit!
My 2 Pfennig joke about Schuringa’s book was: Are all these people still going on about the distinction between "analytic" and "continental" philosophy using or mentioning it?
Since we’re not supposed to use “Two birds, one stone” anymore, I suggest we replace it with “One raclette, two neighbors”
