While I'm deutsch-posting, a source of constant amusement for me is whenever I open options in software and it gives me options for themes and it's just.

"Theme: Hell"

Yes, microsoft outlook...that is your theme.

10 years and this place still reveals absolutely bizarre things to me.....

ah, a goulash gun carriage. Of course, how normal. How obvious.

Tough day to be this guy.

for the sake of accuracy, they will also parade the guilds and stampede the horses.... but the crux of the day is detonating a snowman's head.

Ah, it's a half day while they blow up a snowman in the town square today.

Used to be I'd get half days for the queen's birthday.... How cultures differ.

This brewpub will have a .... Gulash Canon?

Ok, well colour me curious and only a little bit fearful. Germanosphere, you might have to help me out a bit.

@jensfoell.de @dingdingpeng.the100.ci have either of you stumpled upon similar stew artillery?

Working from home today. Laid low by this. Can't move.

Luckily it's also a hammer that creates more nails in a self perpetuating cycle! Joys.

Always found that so hard haha. I've never found much reward in finishing something, mostly I do things if the process is good.

Even my PhD didn't feel like a thing to celebrate. Finishing works of art is very like... I don't know... Nothing new happened when I finished it, if that makes sense.

There's something about the process of learning software I find so deeply unstimulating and rewarding. Sure, for software I'm proficient in, it's very useful. But the act of learning that software only feels hollow.

AI is that same hollowness but for like... Thought, having fun ideas.

Learning more and more that many of the friction points professionally and personally over the last 10-15 years are because I don't like having an interface between me and a task.

Playing music? Love it.

Playing music in a DAW? Hate it.

Drawing? Woo!

Digital drawing? Agony.

Yup, I bet it's a numbers game.

Part of me would like to take a gamble on pursuing it hard, so I can play that numbers game a bit. See what it's like.

Cos making stuff in my spare time is so slow. I like to be obsessive about my projects but you can't in spare time cos you have to switch focus.

Just because making things is fulfilling as an innate act, doesn't mean that is mentally sustainable. Making art is communicative and so making stuff without an audience strips a lot of the meaning away.

Just started writing a script for a video I wanna make. It'll be a heap of work to get this done. As a lecture, I know it slaps. Everytime I've given it, it's done really well.

But digitally? I'm gonna post it here and have 2 people like it cos they see I made a thing, not that they watched it.

Man... It's a battle. I love making stuff and some of it is genuinely good. But anything I make has a reach of "my friends who I text it to" and I don't want to engage with all the nonsense required for getting it out there. But then I'm stuck thinking, why am I doing this for an audience of 3?

The second pirates film is the most bewildering experience.

It starts with like 10-20 minutes of high art film, then 90 minutes of movie that feels like a theme park, then another very surreal, movie buff bookend to finish.

OpenAI: We’re burning money like the Joker. A miracle needs to happen for us to turn a profit

Microsoft: Please please use our AI systems, we’re teetering on the edge here

Anthropic: I wonder what’ll kill us first: lawsuits, regulations or model collapse

Media and universities: AI is here to stay

Can you expand on this?

Finding a lot of things where now would have been the perfect time to have done it ages ago.

Vexing.

Plus market available.

I don't doubt that AI can speed up code for things like making websites... Well, ok... How many companies don't have a website? How many more websites do users want to visit?

Is there any reason to think what AI is good at, was a growth bottleneck to begin with?

Sometimes feel like people think AI solves heaps of problems cos they never used access and don't understand that mail merge is a thing that already does personalised text en masse.

People have an awful sense of time and computer development. It's like if it's not in public conscious, it doesn't exist. Use of "hashtag" in its current way is a decade or so older than I am.

The internet was wanted by consumers *before* it was a available to consumers.

Contrast with AI where it's availability is not wanted, so it's being thrust down consumer throats by providers.
