feels like an especially irresponsible moment to ignore BDS when Game Pass is the easiest, level one way to participate in the boycott and BDS just called for renewed pressure after Israel passed a law on executing Palestinian and Arab in prisons that use Microsoft cloud services

text that reads: If you have to cover Xbox-published games, always do so with context about Microsoft’s activities and the ongoing boycott. Just because you may be in a position where you have to cover these games, it doesn’t mean you can’t make people aware of the boycott against Microsoft called for by BDS. Be constructive and thoughtful in your criticism, and help people understand that by purchasing an Xbox-published game, or by subscribing to Game Pass, they are supporting a company that is complicit in the genocide against the Palestinian people.

I just think about this advice from @nogamesforgenocide.com quite a bit... for no reason in particular

Whisper Of The Heart left a lo-fi legacy unique to Studio Ghibli Yoshifumi Kondō's mundane, romantic 1995 cult classic Whisper Of The Heart remains a prescient rejoinder to technological advances.

Whisper of the Heart is in theaters today, so here's what I wrote for its 30th anniversary last year! Kondo's Ghibli film remains a relevant portrait of what finding connection in an urbanizing, digital world feels like.

I simply will never get excited about a remake for a game from the PS3/Xbox 360 era or newer that I can actively play on my PS5 right now. Graphics are not that much better. This is peak consumerism feeding on fandom and hype and I simply do not want to be losing chess to a dog

It isn’t even 8am and I have a craving for a Chicago hot dog. What?

Someone should pay me. I don’t know what for, that’s unimportant. They should just do it.

I’ve had the same editor since 1967. Many times he has said to me over the years or asked me, Why would you use a semicolon instead of a colon? And many times over the years I have said to him things like: I will never speak to you again. Forever. Goodbye. That is it. Thank you very much. And I leave. Then I read the piece and I think of his suggestions. I send him a telegram that says, OK, so you’re right. So what? Don’t ever mention this to me again. If you do, I will never speak to you again

There’s a great tidbit you can find where a digger robot kills a guy and everybody is like “oh shit are the ai somehow rebelling against their programming?” And it turns out the corporate higher ups just decided to turn off safety features for cost cutting measures cuz they suck.

Had more thoughts so Ill put them here (was gonna blog but three people already did the blog lol):

Hugh is much more influenced by Lee in TWD than Joel in TLOU or Kratos in GoW or any other "sad dad". Lee largely, like hugh, just accepts Clemtine and wants to care for her from the get go!

Y'all ever watched A.I Artifical Intelligence (2001)

Lee's questions of if he should take care of Clementine or not are more focused in a worry that association with him and his past actions will jeopardize her place in communities in this new status quo. Which... is also caring for her! Hugh and Lee both just care

Pragmata is like 80% the second. Diana is not meant to evoke genAI and that tech in today's world. 20% though (mostly the flavor text and lore bits about the delphi corporation and some goings on on the lunar base pre-game) have hints of genAI allusion, but they aren't fleshed out stories

2 days ago 15 0 2 0

Something Pragmata really drilled home to me is that we need to really differentiate betweenthe 2 types of AI stories. The first are trying to say something about the realities of genAI as it exists today and impacts people. The second exist in a lineage of sci-fi AI disconnected from reality.
