Mamdani hasn't had time to really think about all that space he now has, because he spends most of his time at City Hall and around New York City. He tries to keep a semblance of his old life by getting around the city on foot, by bike or train.

"If you spend every single day driving around in a tinted window security detail, you will have a very specific view of the city," he said. "You actually meet other New Yorkers and you break out of the bubble that so many have come to expect of politics, where politicians only seem to be spending time with other politicians or the people who donated to make them politicians."

I'd say that this applies to anyone traveling in a car in any city. Being in a car versus walking, riding, or taking transit fundamentally changes how you view a place and your relationship to it. I wish more leaders set this kind of example.

This line runs through another explosives dump just to the north of the Arran ferry route. Also, Arran isn’t exactly flat where that line intersects.

I keep thinking “my god the people they’ve killed seem like exceptionally good folks” and I think the lesson there is that they’re not exceptional, but that wonderful people abound and that a baseline distrust in humanity is a shitty conservative trope that privileges power over collective strength

Again: I'm gonna remind folks to learn their Confederate and proto-Confederate history, and SPECIFICALLY on a pre-Civil War proto-KKK group known as the Knights of the Golden Circle and their plans for conquest (which at this point are almost a 1:1 match for TFG's)

A mini-historical thread:

Seriously.

A bicycle kick.
A penalty
A sending off
A pinger from outside the box
And the keeper lobbed from the halfway line in the dying seconds to seal it.

A perfect game of football.

We get should get to keep it.

Sean Dunn, aka DC Sandwich Guy, speaks outside court after his not guilty verdict:

“I am so happy that justice prevails in spite of everything….

“That night I believe I was protecting the rights of immigrants…

Every life matters, no matter where you came from, no matter how you got here…”

Gold leaf Steinway piano in East Wing of White House

Gold leaf Steinway piano in East Wing of White House

🧵Let's talk about the obvious:

Where in the fuck did all the historic artwork and priceless furnishings go, including the gold leaf Steinway piano that was presented to FDR from the Steinway family?

Did Trump steal all this when he demolished the East Wing?

Why aren't Dems demanding to know?

I'm pissed that they're blaming women for a nonexistent "autism crisis." I'm pissed that they're lying about what autism is and that mainstream people are normalizing what they're saying about autistic people. I'm pissed that this murderous grift is continuing. I'm just pissed.

If you’re rich and not a coward, this is what you’d refer to as a “market opportunity” to dominate a media ecosystem that’s about to be covered in grotesque government slop. To be a pop of color in a sea of beige will be easier than ever. People will flock to it. You gotta be a little brave, though.

Imagine if the MAGA Right went after the “right to bear arms” the way they’re going after free speech.

Only one of these is clearly related to Kirk’s death.

RFK Jr.’s damage to the CDC is ‘past the point of no return,’ Dr. Demetre Daskalakis warns “The CDC you knew is over,” the infectious diseases doctor told The Advocate. “Unless someone takes radical action, there is nothing there that can be salvaged.”

there is no question in my mind that rfk jr is the most dangerous person in this administration and that his eugenicist ideology threatens the lives of millions of people www.advocate.com/politics/dem...

Well, this is one of the most terrifying and anxiety inducing things I've ever seen.

Imagine the road filled with drivers doing this. Now you can understand the hyper vigilance required of pedestrians and bicyclists. And despite that, we can still get splattered because of 3 seconds of distraction.

Screengrab reads: "She knew gentrification was coming when she waw the bike lanes."

Heard this in the Katrina Netflix series and its true. While I get excited about bike infrastructure talks, because its needed, folks get priced out fo the area.

Gentrification is what we call it when demand exceeds supply. It is not caused by bike lanes.

The answer is not to suppress demand by enshittifying cities, or to justify endangering & killing people outside of cars as a rent control mechanism, but to increase supply.

Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk say human population not nearly big enough: ‘If we had a trillion humans, we would have at any given time a thousand Mozarts’ “I think in a lot of these endeavors we're very like-minded,” Bezos said of himself and Musk regarding getting humans into space.

I don’t know why this incenses me as much as it does, but it does:

we very likely have a thousand plus Mozarts *right now*. But they make non-Western art in economically destitute conditions so they have to do other work to pay bills; if you cared, UBI’d be more important to you than going to space

A thing that plagues SF, and the US in general, is not looking around and saying: Who has solved this problem somewhere else and what did they do?

Maybe we don't need a 5-year process and billions of consultants to figure this out.

Musk has adjusted Grok’s algorithm so it’s now a neo-Nazi.

Pretty cool that almost every progressive commentator, elected official and organization still uses Musk’s X algorithm to communicate with the public! Good job guys.

There are two HUGE stories in America this wknd:

1) nationwide protests — all 50 states, not just big cities but small towns & communities — which gathered MILLIONS OF AMERICANS IN THE STREETS TO DEFEND DEMOCRACY

2) political violence is being normalized — as is violence in political situations /1
