Great explainer on the ongoing Nordic Nuke Debate™️ and the 3 strategic options facing the region.
With 🇸🇪 history of non-proliferation, everyone from top policy experts to grandma in the local paper is debating US extended deterrence, european nuclear sharing, and even Nordic domestic development.

OK, so today I too experienced the dubious delight of a train evacuation in Ukraine: train stops, everyone out into the fields, rain, an explosion some 5-10 km away. And some needed fresh air. My impression is that there is a non-zero chance that someone could be left behind when the train leaves.

Doomerism isn’t as edgy as people think, and it’s often not accurate either

Breaking news: With more than 70% of the votes counted, Péter Magyar’s Tisza party is projected to win a two-thirds majority in Hungary's election ft.trib.al/a7M8jyZ
It’s a special kind of pleasure to see a Russian investment and a MAGA endorsement backfire massively ☺️
2. Ties to Russia... not good! Being anti-Ukraine fell flat for Orban despite a huge propaganda effort.
3. Ties to Trump... also not good! Expect ramped up efforts to tie far-right parties to Trump and for far-right parties to distance themselves. In general, anti-American rhetoric will ramp up. 2/
A defeat like this will change European politics. A few thoughts.
1. Running vs. EU has costs - publics aren't anti-EU and EU can hold back funding. Being an obstructionist jerk in Brussels has tangible political downsides. This strengthens the leverage of the EU and deters obstructionists. 1/
What a relief and win for democracy in Europe that Orban conceded his defeat.
I bet it’s going to be ugly with Fidesz in the opposition, and Tisza will have a tough time undoing years of Orban’s work. But Hungary is clearly a strong and stable democracy despite Orban’s best efforts to undermine it.
Orbán became the longest serving member of the European Council when Angela Merkel left.
On her last European Council, Merkel got a warm goodbye. For Orbán, the rest of Europe will utter a good riddance.

The best news for all of Europe in a long time ☺️
Thank you Hungarians
JD my man never thought this day would come but thank you bro great help great success
The problem is that this US administration thinks negotiating means that they can dictate their conditions and then the other side has to take it or leave it. But diplomacy isn’t a real estate deal where wins and losses can be measured in dollars
Diplomacy can work if you 1) let it 2) have realistic goals 3) are creative and flexible and 4) prepare 5) create leverage. Trump team has done little of this. Almost none. So more war is likely. As is a nuclear Iran when all is done.
Late Roman Empire vibes
The US war in Iran is a prime example that military power alone, without a feasible political plan that it supports and the ability to think strategically about consequences of using military power, does not solve or achieve anything desirable
A real race to the bottom
New plan: You’re not allowing any ships though the strait? Fine. We won’t allow any ships through the strait either, thereby bringing the number from basically zero to basically zero. See how you like it.

A big day in Hungary ! I hope Hungarians finally get a taste of a political alternative. It’s way overdue
Incredible numbers: turnout at the Hungarian elections hit almost 38% at 11 in the morning. Something big is happening.
This doesn’t seem great.
