I am 38 today, Had to miss my twice weekly PT today because I got a foot of snow, and it's single digits with one hell of a wind chill. I'm no mood to celebrate either- some of these E.O's are bound to affect my work life, and who knows what happens to publicly funded disability programs

Looking for a designer to update my currently existing largely dormant, Squarespace five blog and migrated to the latest version of Squarespace, or whatever is recommended by a professional designer type. I will pay you. I'm thinking of the launch around April or sooner.

It is not easy to simply migrate nearly 20 years of communication methodology even with people who are local to me whose numbes an email I have. And to what degree are Google Verizon etc really that distinct from the awful lobbying and cozying anyway?

The question is whether the passive contact is worth worse knowing that keeping things active to any degree it's lining Pockets and thereby enabling stuff stuff we all think is awful. The answer is no but the consequence is being less informed and sacrificing that connection.

Yes the WhatsApp part of it is really tricky. Even if I convince everybody to migrate over to signal or something, there's nothing to guarantee that that won't get bought out eventually.

I feel like we tried this already with another platform whose name I've already forgotten back when The wannabe acquired Twitter

If I hear back from squarespace I might resurrect my old blog, but I just don't know. I don't know if anything is going to recapture Early Twitter and message boards

Meta still has some utility in groups, in local events and restaurants and concerts and stuff I can look up And as a Rolodex to keep in peripheral contact with folks that otherwise wouldn't.

I text and email plenty. But sometimes people forget to text me back etc and it' it's necessarily simpler

Dad has become an enthusiastic fan of "Blue Bloods. I pop in, refer to Tom Selleck's Frank Regan "Commissioner Batman." and lampoon the abuses. I also still think @laurahudson.bsky.social 's article in SLate from 2014. A great writer, Laura, in a bygone era of the Internet.

But wait! "Can't you host people at your house?" Try living with your soon-to-be 71-year-old father whose had a wicked cough since last September, has gone to the doctor twice, but never finishes his prescriptions, and doesn't really disclose persistent severity to his primary. GAH

Preeti "Parker Luck" Chhibber strikes again. Buy her Spider-man books. They're funny and heartfelt.

. I have been without my wheelchair van - my sole mode of non-medical transport for about 6 weeks now. The ramp stopped working. The dealer "discovered" parts that should have been replaced pre-sale, and sent it to a repair shop - who could not fix it. Now the dealer mechanic gets another crack.
