I am happy to announce the release of Rhino Linux 2025.1, bringing many improvements such as Dynamic Workspaces to the Unicorn Desktop, amongst many other great things.
Rhino Linux will also be giving a talk at #fosdem

Big mistake, hours of your life will be lost, trust me ๐ญ๐
I was the kid who liked to tinker away and do everything - depending on the kid, don't deprive them of that joy (seriously for me that was 90% of the fun) although if kids don't want to tinker, don't make them ๐คฃ
That's fair! And one day we do plan to have a disk image you can customise from the ground up, but that requires significant work and time that we would rather spend polishing other aspects of the distro right now.
No snaps are optional. Just because we are Ubuntu based doesn't mean we *are* Ubuntu.
Lmao I wouldn't install an OS on someone else's PC without their knowledge personally, but that's your decision to make.
One piece of information I will say that is crucial to your experience is to not treat it like Ubuntu, and to read our Wiki. We deviate a lot from the traditional Ubuntu experience + there are some known issues with 2024.2 (that will be solved in the next release) wiki.rhinolinux.org
That'd be great, I'm always happy to hear perspectives from new users by the way, so feel free to drop your pros + complaints to me ๐คฃ
Computer setup is so fun honestly. While it's shameful I have brought products in the past just to set them up because I love that feeling ๐
Even if you don't wish to switch, If the concept interests you then I strongly encourage you to join our Discord community (if you use Discord, that is, we do plan to setup forums in the future) - We're always happy to see new community members join :)
To be honest, never switch to a distro just because of the theme, Rhino is cool even without our theme. While Rhino Linux is an ubuntu-based rolling release distribution, we are NOT Ubuntu, nor do we try to be. We use rhino-pkg and pacstall to handle packages, snaps are very much optional + more.
Congratulations! Welcome to the club
side-note, the actual Rhino Purple itself on our branding page is a shade of pastel purple imo: HEX #8d7be4
While pastel purple is lovely, I do think we'd get a lot of complaints if our main theme was light mode ๐คฃ although possibly offering it as an alternate theme could come in the future ๐ค
The one thing I will never get over is how good Macbook displays are, sometimes it makes me miss owning a Macbook but then I remember how horrible the UX of macOS is ๐คฃ
This is just programming in a nutshell to be honest. I feel your pain my friend ๐
The purple is nice, hands down my favourite colour lmao, and I think it's quite pleasing. Our next two releases aim to polish the user experience significantly as well.
I mean you can be the judge for yourself, although I will say despite our small development team, we get the job done! rhinolinux.org
If any of you guys know about rhinolinux.org, we're looking for people to help manage our online community and developers for critical aspects of the distro like DE development! DM if you're interested.

You know, there is a rolling ubuntu ๐
I was documenting what everyone did for our group assignment by checking merged PRs. Horrible news, we were so close to finishing it too
The moment I try to do some coursework for University and GitHub goes down... Typical :(
Took me a while to finally get around to making a Bluesky account, for a long while I just didn't use "X" or any twitter alternative, but my friend finally won me over.
