Mass shooting yesterday at Teotihuacán, the amazing World Heritage pyramid site near Mexico City.

Noteworthy- this seems more like a "US-style" mass shooting, and does not seem to be related to organized crime. Single perpetrator, basic weapons. 1 dead, 10+ injured. (Photos circulating online.)

2 Americans Killed in Mexico Crash Were C.I.A. Officers

Wow! "President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico said on Monday that her cabinet had no prior knowledge of the activities involving the Americans in Chihuahua and would investigate whether their involvement in the operation violated Mexico’s national security laws."

If this had been organized crime, many more people could have been killed. It highlights the importance of distinguishing between organized vs. other types of crime.

Criminal organizations know that it is (usually) not in their interest to attack tourists, especially in such a public way.

It’s a telling indicator of media desensitization that the US government’s ongoing program of murder on the high seas—which according to the perpetrators has killed fourteen (14) people this week— is no longer a subject for much serious or sustained news coverage.

When you add it all up, the collapse in immigration looks like this: a decline of roughly 50K for illegal (even including the people arrested and not released) and a decline of about 132K for legal. Over 70% of the cut in immigration has come from LEGAL immigration.

The 3mn tourists expected to visit
Guadalajara this summer were more likely to be customers than victims of the CJNG, security analysts said. Cocaine and marijuana are routinely sold by the cartel in bars around the city, while illicit alcohol, tobacco and vapes show up in shops.
The group also controls prostitution rings and has directly targeted foreigners in fraud schemes involving timeshare resorts.
"All these opportunities will expand during the World Cup," said Fernando Jiménez Sánchez, a Guadalajara-based security researcher. "It is going to be a very good few weeks for criminal businesses."

Those visiting Guadalajara for the World Cup needn’t worry about physical crime: the cartels don’t want to undermine the far bigger opportunities of drugs, prostitution and fraud which the tournament presents. Great piece this

For decades, other countries adopted/followed US terrorist designations. But after the US designated 4 European leftist groups last year, almost no other countries* did the same. Despite US pressure, as this article explains.

So after the massive death and destruction, now everyone will pay Iran (and Oman) to use the Strait of Hormuz. Which was open just fine before the war began. War is so dumb. This one, especially so.
