Super complicated character motivation chart

Working on my travel version chart of who is betraying who is betraying who and why in my new WIP… #amwriting (kinda)

The earliest stage of a writing project for me is listening to the MCs having out of context conversations in my head:

“If you’ve gotta be fucking FREEZING, there’s no better place to be fucking freezing than Cleveland.”

“You haven’t had a real good time ‘til you’ve seen the back of an ambulance.”

I put them up in a very particular order, it my characters take them off in whatever the heck order they like.

Indeed. That one really got away from me too.

And I KNOW it’s gonna happen, but I KEEP PLANNING ANYWAY…

I can’t start without a ‘plot wall’ even though I am absolutely certain the post it notes will come off the wall all out of order anyway.

Sounds like an enjoyable way to write.

I love the dichotomy.

I don’t really have a separate muse. I fall at least a little in love with all my MCs and they are my muse for their story. I’m totally obsessed with getting in their heads and hearing them talk.

My characters do this all the time. AT THE TIME, I don’t generally appreciate it. But they’re usually right.

Honestly FIRST step for me with any new story is characters just pop into my head one day and have completely out of context conversations for a few weeks and I feel like I’m just evesdropping…

I feel like that last sentence could be a summary of my whole life.

I had one murder mystery once where the killer changed three times during the first draft. 😂

This is a weird answer for #HorrorWritersChat but, honesty? My MCs fell in love too quickly. The reader was supposed to be on board with one MC thinking the other was, and I quote, ‘a psychotic, murderous bitch’ but then all of a sudden it was, ‘Nooo. She’s so PRETTY.’

Rogue character shenanigans…
