I can't get past the absurdity of the claims that these are being broadcast to the summit. The idea of Macron flipping through his hotel TV and stumbling across the downtown Calgary channel thinking he'd found TSN is kinda funny though.

Colleagues: Next month, join me in conversation to share library workers lived experiences of challenge, & to explore immediately applicable pathways to Critical Hope & Joy Reclamation Practice for our whole-hearted, human selves. (Note: date is July 15, 2025 at 11A ET)

I am discomfited by how quickly university admins went from “catch the cheaters w these bad detection tools!” to “here is an embedded AI chatbot in the enterprise software for everyone to use!” bsky.app/profile/jhmu...
This is true. But why did people forget about the importance of vaccinations? Another negative impact of COVID.
You just don't know how badly I needed to see this today! 🥹❤️ #ProtectBlackGirls #BlackGirlhoodStudies
Incredible! "Content moderators who comb through harmful material uploaded to online platforms have formed a global trade union alliance...to improve working conditions. The Global Trade Union Alliance of Content Moderators (GTUACM) announced today in Nairobi"

"There is no regulatory framework to ensure technologies are evaluated for safety, efficacy and societal harms before being deployed. We must use our own critical faculties & yet within the sector above all others where you would expect to see such criticality it is glaringly absent." #AcademicSky 📚
#tdih 1970 Kent State, National Guard shot unarmed college students: protesting U.S. bombing of Cambodia & passing by. Killed 4, wounded 9.

This... It seems to me the government before the Liberals are the ones who stopped building affordable houses and low-income rental units, so what we are experiencing right now is not all on the Liberals.

Addressing this to fellow Australians but it applies to everyone: LCSH and LCNAF are not library law. Their use is entirely optional. We can choose otherwise. We should choose better.
This is going to kill many public libraries, especially in rural areas. If you use a public library, you will be impacted. #imls is a dust mote in the federal budget. It also provides things like internet at your local library so people can apply for jobs and kids can do homework.
LOVE to see CBC doubling down on its commitment to local news. One of the most vital roles our public broadcaster plays imo!!!
Lots of jobs here too:
A grainy, vintage-looking black and white photo of Martin Sostre with his quote in white typewriter-text: "The struggle for human dignity knows no boundaries nor, may I add, is limited to any particular people or race." The image is from a postcard demanding an end to Sostre's torture and commutation of his sentence, c. 1975. Courtesy of Ewa & Hania Dubinsky.
Martin Sostre (1923–2015) was a politicized prisoner and jailhouse lawyer who eventually identified as a revolutionary anarchist and laid the foundation for contemporary Black anarchism. He believed it was necessary to dismantle both the prison and the state. (1/3)
We need good schoolhouse rock type videos, reels, TikTok’s explaining in plan language what an algorithm is. What different types of AI are. What bots are. These terms are being used broadly by people who have no idea what they are. We need remedial education for the general public!
so, as ever, education can be asked to pay for "innovations" that police bodies with no genuine understanding of learning, but... funding for small class sizes or active learning? lolol nope

This attitude (of mine) will lead some to say I'm self silo-ing or creating a bubble or whatever. Maybe. Maybe sometimes it's appropriate because there are lines good people refuse to cross on basic principle. A site run by someone saying Canada needs its own DOGE is a fucking bright line for me.
Occasionally The Hub will feature smart commentary by smart guest posters. I've always had trouble engaging/reading, precisely because it's run by someone who often enough shows his colours as a dangerous right-wing ideologue.

If we can do our jobs so can you.
Wealthy business people and corporations avoided all or most taxes. Tesla/Musk paid 0$ in taxes. As did Apple.
The people who can afford the ticket won't pay taxes, but will leech off all benefits and services. It's a detriment to America.
If every person who thinks their vote won't change anything votes, it will change EVERYTHING!!
Workers, you get 3 hours off to vote, grab a coffee and go vote.
On ODSP, all parties BUT Doug Ford will DOUBLE your assistance, grab a friend or two and go vote!
Need a doctor, go vote. Bring I.D.

The way #UCalgary admin behaved towards students who have every right to take up space on their own campus was disgraceful. I said it then and I'll say it again now, Ed McCauley needs to apologize and take accountability.
