"Jesus explained with great simplicity what it means to be holy when he gave us the Beatitudes...So if anyone asks: 'What must one do to be a good Christian?', the answer is clear. We must do, each in our own way, what Jesus told us to do in the Sermon on the Mount." #PopeFrancis #LiveTheGospel
When I reflect on all these blessings I am overcome by a kind of dread and numbness at the very possibility of ceasing to love God and of bringing shame upon Christ because of my lack of recollection and my preoccupation with trivialities. ~ St. Basil the Great (Office of Readings)

Martyred OTD in 1220, the first, or 'proto' martyrs of the Franciscan Order, Ss. Berard, Peter, Adiutus, Accursius, and Otho, after preaching in Morocco. Upon hearing of their martyrdom, St. Francis is said to have said, “Today, I can truly say that I have five friars minor.”

Every soul that believes – that soul both conceives and gives birth to the Word of God and recognizes his works. Let the soul of Mary be in each one of you, to proclaim the greatness of the Lord. Let the spirit of Mary be in each one of you, to rejoice in God. ~ St. Ambrose (Office of Readings)
"Before the holy night of #Christmas, think of someone with whom you would like to make peace: it will be a more precious gift than those you can buy in the shops, because peace is a gift that is found, truly, only in the heart." #PopeLeoXIV #PrayForPeace #MakePeace
St. Bernard to Mary:
Respónde verbum, et súscipe Verbum: profer tuum, et cóncipe divínum: emítte transitórium, et ampléctere sempitérnum.
Answer with a word, receive the Word of God. Speak your own word, conceive the divine Word. Breathe a passing word, embrace the eternal Word. (O. of R.)
"Let us magnify and give thanks to the Most High and Supreme Eternal God, Trinity and Unity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Creator of all, and Savior of all who believe in him, hope, in him, and love him." #SaintFrancisOfAssisi
Above all things, keep peace within yourself, then you will be able to create peace among others. It is better to be peaceful than learned. (from The Imitation of Christ in the Office of Readings for today)

Today is World Calligraphy Day, and hopefully you know that #Tolkien was an accomplished calligrapher. He used different styles of handwriting and alphabets to create depth in his stories. Not just an author, poet and scholar, but an artist, too!
