Early childhood advocates had to fight HARD this session to keep these programs as whole as we possibly could. These "cost savings" also cost these children so many opportunities in their future. We KNOW that high quality care and education are integral to lifelong success and opportunity. Tragic.

Rent stabilization is still alive! This afternoon members of the House voted to not concur and not accept the version of EHB 1217 that was sent to them by the Senate. What happens next is the formation of a conference committee to work to fix the bill, and there are just 4 days left to get it done.

Tax the rich? UW economist calls WA a ‘tax haven like the Cayman Islands’ Professor Jacob Vigdor has conservative bonafides and raised progressives' ire with his past research on the minimum wage. But now he's all in for Washington to tax the rich.

The notion that taxing the tech oligarchy is somehow a bad idea just got another nail in the coffin today thanks to UW economist Jake Vigdor, who can hardly be accused of progressive partisanship. 🧵 www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news...

Gov Ferguson missed the mark with his stern lecture. Good leaders inspire, not patronize. Good leaders commit to people-based values, not protecting the uber wealthy. Good leaders provide vision, not a 5-item to-do list to an independent #waleg. Good leaders fire people up, not wag fingers at them.

Massive turnout at Democratic lawmakers’ town halls as Republicans hide from voters The GOP struggles to defend the unpopular Trump administration’s policies.

"Randall hosted a morning town hall Saturday in Bremerton that filled up in minutes. Rather than turning the overflow crowd away, she immediately held a 2nd session. 'I want to hear from everyone who took the time out of their day to be here,' she wrote online..."

WA’s sunny days spell trouble for snowpack One water manager described the situation — below-normal snowpack coupled with a statewide drought emergency — as "ominous."

"This January is on track to be one of the five driest on record in Seattle… Snowpack lags across much of Washington and the statewide drought emergency persists, foreshadowing a potentially hazardous summer. Federal reservoirs sit at a fraction of their normal capacity."
