Sex in Public makes a tantalizing promise: better sex lives and empowerment await, if only we dare to know our sexualities fully, reimagining society as we do. 7/7
Jones pinpoints the repressive forces that distort eroticism’s power, but also reveals our means of breaking free. Championing a rebellious spirit that uplifts bodily autonomy, justice, and care,….6/7
To make this case, Jones charts the inner and interrelated workings of our desires, behaviors, identities, relationships, and communities. Guiding readers through field-leading sociology, sexual science, and the voices of sexual rule-breakers worldwide…5/7
Sex in Public offers a revolutionary new paradigm for understanding sexuality. Sex is never strictly personal, but relentlessly social, shaped by power relations, and possessing outsized power of its own. 4/7
Fears of judgment fuel an air of oppression around something that should be liberating. According to feminist sociologist Angela Jones, we must reject this solitary vision of desire to claim the pleasure fundamental to our freedom. 3/7
Whether we are contending with shame, healing from trauma, or experimenting in the bedroom, there is a common tendency to cast anything sexual as a problem best solved in private. 2/7
Author, Angela Jones is wearing a red suit and white crop top. The suit jacket is long to the floor, and they are wearing white sneakers. They are standing in front of large public art with big red letters LOVE.

📕 Sex Work Today Erotic Labor in the Twenty-First Century
Edited by Bernadette Barton, Barb Brents @bgbrents.bsky.social, & Angela Jones @drjonessoc.bsky.social
It features incredible voices, including Lindsay Blewett, who conducted a lit review on online sex work for le Shaw → buff.ly/UMP18S3
Thanks for sharing! Love Lindsey's essay so much! People do not write enough about disability and sexuality, and disability and sex work!
Hey! I’ve had to start a new insta all over again @angelajwriter and I’d appreciate the follows there, if you’re so inclined! Thank you 🙏🏽❤️

Did this duche Brandon on #SneakyLinks on #Netfix just say “just the tip?” Me waiting for the host or relationship “expert” to loudly denounce sexual coercion…..

Swedens new law is a serious blow to human and labor rights and in defiance of decades of social science showing that only decriminalization of sex work promotes positive public health outcomes and supports sex workers autonomy and rights. 2/3
The Swedish Parliament @sveriges_riksdag @gudrunnordnorg @themartinmelin @sanna_backeskog
has voted to expand the criminalization of sex work to include sexual acts performed remotely. This is harmful policy that willfully ignores the voices of sex workers. 1/3
That’s great. My experience was they never were. Nobody ever commented, gave feedback—never used as a tool to support faculty—just paperwork. Glad to hear you’ve had a good experience 👍🏽
So, #academicbluesky, do you have to do annual faculty reports? I’ve always had to and when I was a department chair I also did one for the department. I feel like I won the academic lotto because the university I moved to doesn’t do them—just a goals meeting with chair at the start of the year.
Keep up all your fantastic work! You’re amazing! 🤩
