I am in Abu Dhabi ahead of a two-day tour of the UAE, KSA, and Qatar, today and tomorrow.
I come with three messages for our Gulf partners:
▫️ We stand in full solidarity in the face of Iran’s indiscriminate, unjustifiable, and unlawful attacks.
There must be space for diplomacy. The EU stands ready to contribute to all diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and for a lasting solution to end the hostilities, while addressing the broader security concerns posed by Iran.
To de-escalate the situation, I urged Iran to stop the unacceptable attacks on countries in the region and to engage positively on the diplomatic track, notably with the UN to ensure the freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
The current situation in the Middle East is extremely dangerous. Today, in my phone call with President Pezeshkian of Iran, I urged for de-escalation and restraint, the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, and the need for all parties to fully respect international law.
Today, on the 10th anniversary of the horrific attacks in Brussels, we remember the victims, their loved ones, and all those affected.
We remain vigilant in the face of all threats to our security and way of life.
We will never give in to terror or violence.

Weakening sanctions increases Russian resources to wage the war of aggression against Ukraine.
The unilateral decision by the US to lift sanctions on Russian oil exports is very concerning, as it impacts European security.
Increasing economic pressure on Russia is decisive for it to accept a serious negotiation for a just and lasting peace.
The European Union will always be a reliable partner, a defender of the rules-based international order, and upholder of the United Nations Charter.
In this new reality, the EU must defend the rules-based international order. Violations of international law must not be accepted, human rights violations must not be tolerated.
Freedom and human rights cannot be achieved through bombs. Only international law upholds them.
As the war in Iran takes center stage, there is only one winner: Russia.
Profiting from rising energy prices and the diversion of military capabilities and benefiting from the reduced attention to the Ukrainian front.
The military escalation in the Middle East is causing global instability and its consequences are being felt in Europe.
We must protect our citizens & our companies, while working towards de-escalation & focusing on our competitiveness agenda.

On the fourth anniversary of the Russian further invasion of Ukraine in 2022, we, the leaders of the G7, reaffirm our unwavering support for Ukraine in defending its territorial integrity and right to exist, and its freedom, sovereignty and independence.
