Like, I know that's excluding them from the experience of the actual picture, but again, that can't be helped. The original picture cannot be just replaced with words. In this case, alt text is there just so they're not *completely* left out of the loop.

I get it, and anyone who can't view the actual picture is going to miss out on it either way. That sucks, but it can't be helped. So, if you put an alt text at all, IMO the reason for that is to satisfy the curiosity of such people, hence a simple description.

I guess the question you need to answer there is, what is the alt text *for*. That should inform the answer. For example, if it's just so people who can't view pictures know what's in it, I think a simple, no-frills description suffices.
