They want to think that their push against DEI is about fairness and promoting merit over “handouts.” But when a Black woman with a huge resume of accomplishments is thought to lack merit, they’re completely revealing their hand and how they’re defining that word.

A Clash Over Catholicism It was May 1924, and the Ku Klux Klan wanted to showcase its power and cement its sudden grip on Indiana politics by holding a picnic and parade in South Bend, the most Catholic area in the state. Abo...

One of my favorite “history fun facts” I often share in class is that Notre Dame is called “the fighting Irish” because in 1924, UND students beat the shit out of a local Klan that tried to harass them for being Catholic. stories.nd.edu/stories/a-cl...

One of the stated goals of the ADF, Heritage, and Family policy council was to drive a wedge between the LGBTQ community to divide and conquer it.

This pick me is willingly doing that work for them and is constantly being platformed by major media like the Atlantic and the WSJ.

These days, there are always multiple reasons a decision by or priority of this administration is horrific, and this piece lays out another (or one that was new to me anyway) on birthright citizenship.

It didn't sound like in the naming process they ever considered the composite name Nanaimo Barred Owls!

(I checked, western Canada is in their range!)

Fun episode! So I know Danny Boyle doesn’t consider it a zombie movie, but for all OTHER intents and purposes it’s a zombie movie … “28 Days Later” was earlier than “World War Z.” Even if we don’t call them zombies, it kind of inspired the fast-zombie genre, right?

You can always try it in a different key (well, not necessarily for karaoke) if a full octave puts you in a vocally awkward spot. It's also been recorded by Michael Nesmith — who wrote it — and originally by the Greenbriar Boys. So it can work in a masculine voice, but Ronstadt will always be best.

It's not all that surprising that covid boosters are low this year, but it's sad that flu vaxxes are down, too. (We were there for both, btw.)

A week ago, my parents-in-law and I walked into a CVS and headed to the pharmacy counter. My wife made us get up early thinking there'd be a pre-Christmas rush. But when we told the pharmacy staff we were there for vaccines, they cheered. It shouldn't be THAT exciting, but apparently it is.

Transgender and nonbinary youth whose pronouns are respected attempt suicide less: report "It's about effort, and just attempting to be respectful and kind to people," lead author Steven Hobaica tells The Advocate.

“Transgender and nonbinary youth (ages 13 to 24) whose pronouns are respected were 31 percent less likely to attempt suicide in the past year than those whose pronouns are not respected, according to a new report from The Trevor Project”

It's hard to explain to normies how much effort Trump is putting into anti-trans policies.

This is like the 12th thing just this week. And there were 12 things the week before, and 12 things the week before that. There will be 12 things next week.

This is almost everything the government is doing.

Since intersex people are a direct contradiction to a belief system in which both gender and sex are "biologically binary," it's unsurprising. The alternative is to adjust the belief system, and they're not about to do that, are they?

You're welcome for all of those. I've been listening for a while. Glad you're now on a social media platform I use!

I was just listening to that bit in the ThunderBolts episode, and I was like, "he's using a lot of words to describe that format...." It's a useful (and fun!) phrase more people should know. Oh, there's also "medial capitals" for a more formal synonym.

Thought you'd be interested to know that the term for a compound word capitalized in the middle is "camel case" or "camel caps," for the hump in the middle. If you get even more in the weeds, there are different terms for when the first letter is capitalized vs lowercase.

I feel like a heckuva lot of cultures also have a variation on the fried-dough-plus-sugar formula. Donuts and their cousins.

The next cancer-fighting mRNA vaccine may already be here Early-phase research shows Covid mRNA vaccines could give immunotherapies a cancer-fighting boost.

Interesting. Preliminary research suggests that getting an mRNA covid vaccine makes cancer immunotherapy more effective.

Congrats on promotion! I too am moving up from D to C. Again. And for now. I tend to bounce back and forth. This was my most solid season yet, though. I was top two from MD6 onward.

Good lord. I'd say this looks more like the aftermath of a music festival than a funeral, except that we HAD a music festival here last weekend with similar numbers, and it didn't look ANYTHING like this shit pile.

And a lot of the critique is so unconstructive, and it's not even isolated to one cranky diva judge this time. Even Nina, who is normally harsh but fair, is telling people their looks are awful instead of telling them what they could've done better. I think PR is in its catty era.
