Keeya’s curious little explorers are starting to pop out in the Kids’ Zone meerkat habitat, while Naledi’s crew is still snuggled up behind the scenes.

-because both have a kind of... culture of "roasting" people who are "annoying" on public posts. it's a lot harder to do that somewhere like dreamwidth (or any other oldschool forum) without people being like "wow why are you being awful rn".

yeah. yeah. i wasn't a huge LJ user back in the day but i loved browsing communities for old musicians and fandoms. everyone seemed to be friends (on the surface anyway) and there was so much more friendly discussion! i think it's harder to approach people in spaces like twitter and tumblr-

we don't have to know each other btw come hang out. let's make friends.

i made a dreamwidth. hopefully to engage in fandom in a more... personal way? that involves actually speaking to people and being curious about their work!

And again, it's frustrating because it's so hard to balance that acceptance with also... not wanting to really see other people's sexuality or have sex/romance shoved into your stories if that's not what you're going for. But surely we can do that without being judgmental about people's preferences.

-writing your story the way they wanted you to I guess, but otherwise it's like. Who gives a shit. I've written all kinds of horrible abuse survivor stories. I don't care if it ticks people's kinks or not. It doesn't affect me.

Idk it's just weird going to a post to look at the replies and seeing people like "ugh if I write enemy characters, some people are going to get OFF to them hating each other and it's ICKY" when like... that doesn't affect you. It does if they get in your face about it and harass you for not-

-disdain and disgust that people will direct towards readers for wanting a romance at all, including queer romances, is... disheartening. There's nothing gross about wanting to read those things. That includes if they're kinky or problematic or whatever.

It does kind of suck that like. Yeah, romance/sex are borderline unavoidable in media, and if you write a story without those things, yeah, some people are going to be mad about it. Especially if the characters are queer or readers want them to be queer.
