CALL TO ACTION Tell Austin City Council to Vote YES on Item #37: Creation of a Safe to Call process that aims to reduce arrests of Austin residents who request emergency services
In our city, there have been multiple instances reported by emergency service providers of victims of serious crimes being threatened with arrest unrelated misdemeanor warrants or non-criminal actions after calling 911 for help. In January of this year, an Austin woman called 911 to report a domestic violence incident and was detained by the APD on an Administrative Warrant. Her and her young daughter were ultimately deported and separated from their family. No one should be afraid to call for help. Fear of arrest when requesting emergency services puts our community members in danger.
The “Safe to Call” Resolution’s goal is to make calling on the City for help an option for all Austin residents. The Safe to Call working group will work to develop policies to prevent arrests during emergency call responses (like identifying victims and witnesses without checking for warrants during a response), reduce the number of warrants and arrests for unpaid Class C tickets, clarify that “[u]nder the Fourth Amendment, officers may not detain an individual solely due to an administrative warrant”, and develop reporting requirements related to these subject areas.
WHAT YOU CAN DO Speak in favor of Item 37 at the Council meeting on Thursday, April 23, before Council votes. Registration to speak is now open, and closes Wednesday at 12 PM noon. You can register in-person on Thursday until 8:15 AM. There will also be a rally and press conference at City Hall at 12:30 PM the day of. Contact your City Council member before Thursday to tell them to vote YES on Item 37. Links to register to speak at thursday’s meeting and to find and contact your Council member are in the linktree in our bio (linkt.ree/austindsa).
CALL TO ACTION - Tell City Council to vote YES on Item 37
No one should be afraid to call for help. Join us in demanding that City Council approve the “Safe to Call” Resolution (Item 37) to establish a working group that aims to reduce arrests of victims who call 911 for help.

Stay tuned for Part 2, where we'll discuss the situation on the ground today and what you can do to protect your neighbors.
All of this has never been about crime, or the economy, or even immigration; the expansion of I.C.E. is a calculated move to retake the reins of power by force, and never give them back. An administration stacked from top to bottom with white nationalists lives in fear of the multicultural reality that confronts them every single day. They are flailing, and lashing out as the structures which supported them for centuries begin to crumble, however slowly beneath them. It’s true that America has always
“If we Cherokees are to be driven to the west by the cruel hand of oppression to seek a new home in the west, [seeing my friend again] will be impossible.” "Si nosotros los Cherokees hemos de ser expulsados hacia el oeste por la mano cruel de la opresión en busca de un nuevo hogar en el oeste, [volver a ver a mi amiga] será imposible." - JANE BUSHYHEAD Cherokee girl, March 1838 Niña de Cherokee, marzo de 1838
But you cannot erase people like Jane Bushyhead. You can’t erase the realities of slavery and the bloodiest war in American history. UU. You can’t erase the treatment of migrants in the 1900s. And you cannot erase the damage being done by I.C.E. today. Therefore, we must fight to ensure these ghosts of America’s past cease to haunt us in the future.

What began as an expansion of the surveillance state after 9/11, has metastasized into the fascist amalgamation it was always intended to be. The Department of Homeland Security is just one of the many tools the Trump administration is currently wielding to execute their agenda, but the recent explosion in I.C.E.’s budget has made it the most prominent. In case you missed the news last night (and I don't blame you for tuning it out for a night), the US and Israel have reportedly accepted Iran's demands for a ceasefire. Despite over 6 weeks of intense bombardment, the Iranian people remained steadfast, even showing up to form human chains around their bridges and power plants late into the night last night to defend their infrastructure from Donald Trump's genocidal threats, and they have effectively won a strategic victory over the US and Israel—for now. Part of the ceasefire terms were that all Zionist aggression on Lebanon and the broader region (which one assumes to mean the West Bank and Gaza as well, though it was not explicitly stated) cease immediately. Iran, as part of the Axis of Resistance, insisted that all fronts in this war were united, and all fronts should be included in the ceasefire, or none of them would be. This morning, the IOF launched its harshest bombing campaign on the Lebanese capital of Beirut since the 1988 Israeli invasion of the city, with hundreds of martyrs reported so far. It is unclear right now if this will mean the ceasefire is already over, or if it will be salvaged somehow by the US or other guarantors bringing Israel into line.
Join us tonight at Republic Square at 6 PM to demand an end to US-Israeli terror on the people of Iran, Lebanon, and Palestine, and an end to the US war machine! Hope to see you there. ✊️ 🌹

Dispatches from Minneapolis: An overview, by Gumbo V The accompanying image is a table full of zines about how to resist ICE.
The strongest movements are made up of well-connected individuals across far reaches of time and space.
I could feel people watching me. The watching was rarely overt, but it was palpable—a father’s eyes lingering on me as he walked his child home from school; cars slowing down as they passed me by; a second glance from people on the sidewalk. I may have been there for a good reason, but they had no way of knowing.

All About Austin Against Apartheid: Building the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement in Austin in solidarity with the Palestinian people
Gaza is roughly 7,000 miles away from Texas. Still, our state manages to remain actively complicit in Israel’s genocide of Palestinians by housing weapons manufacturers and stifling boycott, divestment, and sanctions movements. Austin Against Apartheid unites businesses and customers in a boycott campaign calling for freedom, justice, and equality for the Palestinian people.
Boycotts are a tried-and-true way to apply economic pressure to companies that are complicit in injustice, and have been used successfully throughout history to effect lasting change. From the Anti-Apartheid boycotts in South Africa to the Delano grape boycott in the United States, Austin Against Apartheid seeks to replicate their success with your help.
Join the AAA campaign to find out how you can help reduce Austin’s contribution to Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine. Residents, business owners, and local employees alike are all welcome! You can visit austinagainstapartheid.com to sign the pledge today, and join us for our next AAA Campaign meeting this Wednesday, April 1st at 6:00 PM!
