New: Meta has deleted trans and nonbinary Messenger themes, as well as the blog posts announcing them. Happens the same week that it has changed its rules to allow users to say LGBTQ+ people are "mentally ill"

screenshot of a post on X from me quoting this same article: I actually find this more off-pissing than the recent moderation policy changes that added exception clauses for hate speech targeting queer people, despite the latter objectively being more significant it’s exactly the fact that these themes AREN’T materially significant in any way; they were just. Themes. that’s all. they just. Existed. they weren’t hurting anyone and you could simply Not Use Them, but they were nice little tokens of appreciation for an oft-disadvantaged group of people it actively took them more effort to remove them than it would’ve to simply leave them up, and for… what exactly? what do they gain from this? ah. Nothing with the moderation policy changes, you could have made the case that it makes business sense to stay on the President’s good side and that that was the motivation behind the policy changes, but I truly have a hard time taking this as anything but a way to quietly inform The Gays that they are not welcome here and are to go fuck themselves
