In light of the Supreme Court’s ruling on the definition of woman in the Equality Act 2010, we send our support and solidarity to trans and intersex women across the UK. Clean Break is for all women, including trans and intersex women. We take an intersectional approach to understanding identity and know that womanhood is not a monolith. We acknowledge the specific experiences of discrimination and oppression that trans women, particularly Black trans women, face in wider society and in the sectors we work in. Whilst the impact of this ruling remains uncertain, we want to be clear that our services and who we serve will not be changing. Trans inclusivity will continue to be upheld as we work towards a world where all women are free to realise their full potential.

"I just hope that people start to understand and realise what the experience of women, of mothers is in prison"
Director Anna Herrmann and Assistant Director Neetu Singh talk about the process of creating Scenes from Lost Mothers.

The evidence keeps piling up: Pregnant women in prison face higher risks of gestational diabetes which can lead to preeclampsia & poor birth outcomes. Alternatives to imprisonment need to be actioned urgently. @birthcompanions.bsky.social @janeystarling.bsky.social @cleanbrk.bsky.social @rcm.org.uk
Handcuffing pregnant women is cruel & unnecessary. It causes deep humiliation & endangers health, especially if in labour. We must stop imprisoning pregnant women 🛑Community support, not prison! @cleanbrk.bsky.social @birthcompanions.bsky.social @janeystarling.bsky.social #scenesfromlostmothers
