True. Many of the most impactful transit reliability upgrades can be built by city crews at very low cost. BRT is great, but no reason to wait decades to roll out most of the benefits.

As a St. Paul native who works for SF Muni, it always does my heart good to see #1701 rolling down Market Street in front of our office.

-Scheduling service based on actual operator availability
-Headway-based service management + strong ops mgmt
-Enhanced maintenance
-New fleet + tech upgrades
-Redesigned routes

Here’s how we did it, from a street design standpoint.

Big credit also to advancements in operations practices, service planning/scheduling, maintenance improvements, accelerated operator hiring and training, etc.

Do we know if the current flag was rendered in, like, MS Paint at some point? The appearance that it was done in Paint (or maybe Kid Pix) feels like the biggest issue with it.

Before and after graphic, showcasing improvements on the M Ocean View light rail line in San Francisco. Before, passengers stepped off into the street on San Jose Avenue at Niagara Avenue. After, passengers step off the train at a new transit boarding island.

Just in time for the holidays: the M Ocean View terminal stop at Balboa Park just got major safety improvements. What a dramatic change. Also -- this is the first location for a new transit stop lighting pilot project, using solar lights. Check it out if you're nearby.

Hello!

This is a personal account, but I hope to post about what we’ve accomplished with transit priority in SF (a lot!), where we’re headed next, and challenges to project delivery.

Also looking to learn from peer cities, especially when it comes to solving for signal priority and intersections.

SFMTA and Public Works are planning a plaza on Church Street near Market Street.

The plaza would widen the sidewalk, create space for local businesses and community, and provide a better experience for people walking, biking, and taking public transportation.

What do you think?

Not exactly an urbanist dream (it’s a mall), but it’s good to see people gathering together in real life anywhere these days.

It’s a super busy, vibrant shopping mall where people of all ages go to hang out. A rarity today.
