True. Many of the most impactful transit reliability upgrades can be built by city crews at very low cost. BRT is great, but no reason to wait decades to roll out most of the benefits.

From way back when Twitter was a fun place to share nerdy city planning analysis.

An oldie but a goodie… now overlaid with rail.

Also, new acting head of SFMTA is a MN native. The MN-SF transit connection is strong.

As a St. Paul native who works for SF Muni, it always does my heart good to see #1701 rolling down Market Street in front of our office.

True — and here’s how Muni got much better:

-100 miles of transit priority upgrades
-Scheduling service based on actual operator availability
-Headway-based service management + strong ops mgmt
-Enhanced maintenance
-New fleet + tech upgrades
-Redesigned routes

Here’s how we did it, from a street design standpoint.

Big credit also to advancements in operations practices, service planning/scheduling, maintenance improvements, accelerated operator hiring and training, etc.

Do we know if the current flag was rendered in, like, MS Paint at some point? The appearance that it was done in Paint (or maybe Kid Pix) feels like the biggest issue with it.

Just in time for the holidays: the M Ocean View terminal stop at Balboa Park just got major safety improvements. What a dramatic change. Also -- this is the first location for a new transit stop lighting pilot project, using solar lights. Check it out if you're nearby.

Musician Christopher Owens’ winding path leads once more to San Francisco The beloved former Girls frontman on returning to his adopted hometown of San Francisco and why his latest solo album was almost his final bow.

"I really wish JR could experience this, but I think he knows."

A lovely profile of Christopher Owens by @zackruskin.bsky.social for the @sfchronicle.com. Emotionally preparing myself for the SF show on Monday too 🙏

I have no real insight to add, but can confirm it’s super fun to be a counselor at Stanford’s youth summer program. At least it was in 2005-06.

@flavorflav.bsky.social can we get a positive ID? Hunter, I will also accept a hand-delivered signed ball as verification.

A Better and Safer Taraval
A Better and Safer Taraval YouTube video by San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency

Loving the stunning drone footage throughout this video — making the case for Taraval as among the most scenic light rail lines anywhere.

Very fun podcast episode about the Taraval project. Transformative work, on a street that is in the running for my favorite commercial corridor in SF.

Hello!

This is a personal account, but I hope to post about what we’ve accomplished with transit priority in SF (a lot!), where we’re headed next, and challenges to project delivery.

Also looking to learn from peer cities, especially when it comes to solving for signal priority and intersections.

SFMTA and Public Works are planning a plaza on Church Street near Market Street.

The plaza would widen the sidewalk, create space for local businesses and community, and provide a better experience for people walking, biking, and taking public transportation.

What do you think?

Rendering of the proposed transit and pedestrian plaza at Church and Market streets. There will be new, wider sidewalks, a new boarding island and a bikeway, as well as seating and landscaping.

Check out the absolutely beautiful designs for the upcoming Church and Market transit plaza. Still a lot of detail design work to do, but looking forward to seeing this come to life. www.sfmta.com/reports/chur...

Not exactly an urbanist dream (it’s a mall), but it’s good to see people gathering together in real life anywhere these days.

It’s a super busy, vibrant shopping mall where people of all ages go to hang out. A rarity today.
