Having been an LP leader at a retail store and served on grand juries that had to process dozens of Target-specific shoplifting cases:
I never heard one case that didn't exceed a dollar amount in sum across a period of time, and it typically involved multiple stores. Something not adding up

For all who celebrate:
The best part of Bane breaking Batman's back is that afterwards, he hurls him from one of the tallest buildings in Gotham to the streets below.
The logistics of Bane dragging a mostly dead, back-broken Batman out of Wayne Manor, into a car, and up a building are hysterical
I also can't help but wonder if this isn't, in some way, the ultimate realization of a nation that above any religion or creed worships violence as the ultimate catharsis. I look at mass shooting after mass shooting, and I see young men, disaffected and alienated, who can only find meaning in the explosion of a rifle barrel in their palm, the warm feeling of blood spattering across their chest. The fervor to signal an intent to commit violence in the wake of any event, and perverse joy in seeing entire populations wiped out abroad, all in the name of revenge, has consumed an entire generation, stoked by bad actors acting in bad faith in order to preserve petty power or advance a political agenda that would only benefit "their side". Seems bad!
Totally agree. I wrote this about Charlie Kirk's killer and what it 'meant' for America

BREAKING: I'm getting word that the Oilix formula has been obtained by a potentially nuclear-equipped mercenary nation in Central Asia. Seems not great

You can't get off this train, but you can avoid hopping onto the other one: the humiliation ritual, which is far more disgraceful, a fact they know because they've spent many a time jeering it on from the sidelines.
Please, God, whatever you do don't let *me* be *that*, even if only superficially
Internally they understand their position is untenable, but their rhetoric has cultivated an audience who believes that aggression to be a strength that is surrendered when you acknowledge its limits and weaknesses.
The problem is the ritual is all-consuming, there's no PTO or vacation
I believe this phenomenon to be the driving force behind people who take aggressive maximalist positions on issues of social etiquette or politics frequently not owning up to failing their own standards.
It's all ritual, and a key component to that is you can't break the ritual for any reason
Even more tragic: the perceived humiliation may not even be a product of their own thoughts, but likely highly influenced by what others (a large social media audience, mostly) *may believe* to be humiliating

It is always somehow both reclaimed homeland and rightfully disputed occupation whenever the reality of what goes on there has to be confronted
Was in an argument with a lawyer working for an Israel advocacy group, and I suggested his usage of the terms 'Judea and Samaria' for the West Bank seemed to be a firm implication that that was Israeli land and that the settlers were in the right. His response? "I didn't say it wasn't occupied"

"I gotta get the hell outta here" is not a noble cause célèbre, it's antisocial and one of my big fears is that with so many people more or less becoming small business owners through wider (nobly!) democratized venues, they adopt the same paranoia, entitlement, and antisocial values
