The Texas legislature rammed through a gerrymandering bill at the request of Trump.
Virginia actually voted in favor of redistricting to counterbalance what Texas and other Republican-controlled states have done.
Yet only one is considered a "power grab."
Oligarch-owned media in a nutshell.

For the first time since ProPublica reported on preventable deaths of pregnant women under Texas’ abortion ban, the state’s medical board has disciplined doctors in those cases.
So much false equivalence in media on gerrymandering in Texas vs California & Virginia. California and Virginia maps approved by the voters. That's a huge difference not enough people pointing out
We just updated our Trump Admin financial disclosures database with 27 new appointees/nominees including Kevin Warsh, Markwayne Mullin and Steven Witkoff.
We also added a feature to sort names in our database by most recently added. 👉 projects.propublica.org/trump-team-f...
Yesterday we spent time going down memory lane reliving the happiest day of our lives. Two years married and forever to go ❤️
A great dispatch from the Texas border, where Texas Republicans, led by AG Ken Paxton, have targeted a key nemesis of the far right and Christian nationalists: Catholic Charities.
NEW: “We see, just, use of excessive force after use of excess force,” said Christy Lopez, who spent years investigating law enforcement misconduct at the DOJ. “In no scenario is it OK to be pepper-spraying people as you're leaving the scene.”

John Cornyn holds a significant fund-raising edge over Ken Paxton, with four weeks to go before early voting begins in the U.S. Senate runoff. But both fell short of the campaign cash amassed this year by James Talarico.

NEW: Porsha Ngumezi and Nevaeh Crain died during miscarriages in Texas after doctors delayed treatment.
The state’s medical board has ruled that substandard care led to the deaths, but the doctors were given minimal punishment.

This is not how a public servant talks in a democracy. This is how a dictator’s henchman talks.

"Do you realize how much water and power it’d take to replicate the average writer’s narcissism, self-loathing and despair? It’d drain the Indian Ocean. You could light up Times Square for a year. We can’t afford it."

My mom works in cleaning services and has to use a lot more English in her current job. She’s in her 50s and always still eager to learn more English. It’s endearing ☺️

A new study shows that Black women outpace every other group of women in workforce participation. Yet they are still paid less & retire in poverty at twice the rate of white women. This is a system. It is long past time this country started carrying them the way they have carried us.
With Hungary in the news, it’s worth paying attention to what happened there to see if we can still stop it here. Mostly using antisemitic propaganda, Orbán has eliminated 90% of teaching activity at Budapest’s top university. Hungary has subsequently seen a massive brain drain & economic stagnation
.. Maybe the best Jason Robards story ever. 💕

Happy 50th anniversary to “All the President’s Men” — a film that owes its existence to Redford, who bought the film rights, developed the script and cajoled a reluctant Woodward & Bernstein.
I thought it was “a great character study,” he said later. But, for months, “they didn’t return my calls.”
I had lunch today with a group of aspiring journalists at the University of Texas. Days like this make me feel very optimistic about the future of journalism. 🙏🏽🐂
Feels weird for Austin to be cloudy and rainy but nevertheless excited to talk to aspiring reporters today at my old stomping grounds. Hook ‘em!
A good time to say that when I worked at ProPublica, we did not have a fair & transparent disciplinary system.
I know because I got a negative performance review NOT written by my supervisor. The person who wrote it then avoided talking to me for months, isolating me w/ no real options.
Bad stuff!

“We're fighting for fair pay because people deserve to be able to afford to stay in the jobs that they love. We're fighting for protections around AI because this work is done by humans.
We love this place. We believe in this work, and we are not backing down.”

A ProPublica worker high fives a giant inflatable rat nicknamed Scabby. Resting on the belly of Scabby is a sign that says: ProPublica workers on strike for a fair contract.
Today, you helped us show @propublica.org management that, without us, there is no ProPublica. And we’re not stopping this fight until we get the contract we deserve.

New: 150 unionized ProPublica workers are on strike TODAY over AI, layoff protections, wages, and more.
They're asking readers to not visit ProPublica or engage with content on other platforms. It's the first work stoppage of its kind at the newsroom.
