I've enjoyed the anime Ascendance of a Bookworm (haven't seen the current). I recently read and enjoyed the first light novel it's based off of, which covers up through episode 6. (Or the other way around; about the usual pace of adaption.) #book #anime #LightNovel

I'm not sure if I've ever made any fanart about Eruruu from the Utawarerumono franchise :) She actually had a lot of influence on Evie's character, so it was about time for me to make something with her :)

Mark and I tried out '80s WWI dogfight game, Knights of the Air recently. I'm certainly impressed by it. There's some rough places, but it puts the complexities of air performance into an accessible format. #wargame #WWI #dogfight #AH

What gets lost with the Zocchihedron is that he *also* created the d10. It's not one of the platonic solids, and took some engineering ~1980 to work out. Before that, you used a d20 with 1-10 on it twice. (With different colors per sequence, so you could say one was 'high' and use it as d20 also.)

Cover of Ghost, Thunderbolt, and Wizard: Mosby, Morgan, and Forrest in the Civil War, by Robert W. Black. Part of the Stackpole Military History Series (with a trade dress showing a medal and a gray-blue outer border [indicating ACW history]).

Robert Black makes an assertion that the Confederate Ranger units were forerunners of modern ranger/special forces units (his usual subject), but doesn't link them in the text.

As it is, this three separate shorter histories that are a bit of a slog to go through.

Cover for The Dragonbards Trilogy by Shirley Rousseau Murphy, featuring Nightpool, The Ivory Lyre, and The Dragonbards.

Dragonbards was Shirley Rousseau Murphy's second YA fantasy series. It's tighter and more cohesive than Ynell, while keeping some of its tropes. However, it loses the parts of Ynell I liked better. #books #fantasy

"literally you just draw the person sitting in front of you but you make the nose big"

This is an untrue and horrible take.

Sometimes you make the chin big.

Patch and I's latest round of Command & Colors: Ancients, was River Sabis from Ex 3. The terrain is certainly interesting, and both sides have a camp to claim for a banner. @gmtgames.bsky.social @CCA #wargames

Crusader Kings II on Steam Explore one of the defining periods in world history in an experience crafted by the masters of Grand Strategy.

Further free game 4:

Crusader Kings II: Paradox's breakout medieval spreadsheet/soap-opera generator was made permanently free when CK III came out. You have to buy expansions, but the base game is *very* solid.

Home FreeCol - a turn based strategy game

Further free game 3:

Free Col - This is an open source clone of Sid Meyer's Colonization (the original, not the remake done on the Civ IV engine). I haven't kept track of it, but last I saw it was close clone of it.

Further free game 2:

Free Civ - this is an open source project that started as effectively a clone of Civilization II. It still looks a lot like it, but has gone it's own way. I haven't kept up on what it's like currently.

Further free game 1:

Free Orion: Open-source project for a space 4X game. Inspired by Master of Orion series, but not directly related to any of them.

I'm not entirely happy with the latest big update, but it is a fairly good space 4X.

The Win7 number is surprising considering they forced everyone off of it for Steam a year or two ago. If it wasn't for that, I'd still be on Win7.

It had good points, but I certainly enjoyed the TOS giants more.

Shelby as a war commander was needed.

If nothing else, have having her in Prodigy at some point would have been good. I think her and Janeway could have been a interesting dynamic.

Shelby deserved bringing back somewhere (and that suggestion is a good one). The most we've got is Peter David used her in Vendetta and the "New Frontiers" series.

(Maybe elsewhere, David or not, but that's what I've seen so far.)
