Good info on how publishing deals operate and Outersloth in particular. Also a little cameo from me in a random slide :)

Tbh I'm not sure I'd be comfortable making public statements about some of the numbers on my underperforming games. So I can't be too critical.
But you are right.. watch to the end people for the full picture.
Yeah I agree that the start of the video is a bit misleading, but he does explain his own personal loss/loan later in the vid. I mean. He's trying to be positive about it, and even if the real cost is only revealed later in the clip its still useful if you watch the whole thing.
Sharing info like this is both super honest and super cool! and super useful of course! Thanks @oneofmoo.bsky.social
Excite!

Can you make it less gloomy then please, Ive had to put the lights on
Yeah and almost always their stories contain reasons for them to also be in that same small environment.
Perhaps its a result of certian solutions to non-linear character stories, I dunno. But I do find it really compelling. Often feeling like a puzzle where you have to fill in teh story gaps yourself..
For some reason this structure seems more prevalent in horror games. Perhaps because it encourages feelings of both isolation and vague purpose. And perhaps because the player isnt meant to 'save' these NPCs. It also creates a sense of more autonomy in the gameworld.
You rarely have much influence over their path and you might even miss parts of their story completely.
Im thinking things like solaire/goldmask/lucatiel in sthe souls games, train passengers in Termina, characters in the Silent HIl games.
Been thinking about the narrative device in games where NPCs have their own story arcs that are essentially independent or parallel to you.
You encounter a character early in a game and learn a little of them and their objectives. Then you meet them later and their story has progressed.
The game's the game

I'm just going to keep hiding in my indie dev cave and pretend this isn't happening
If you'll allow me to be extremely hypothetically silly, the best time to review a game is several months after its final big update and the developer has officially moved on to other projects.
This is also the best time to buy a game.
This is also completely non-viable, financial & feedback-wise.
New Trailer for LONG GONE, releasing 2027.
