If you want to iterate faster and ship more stable builds, you should learn about writing automated tests.
I'm offering a few one-day public workshop on test automation in video games, for both unreal and unity devs, Pay What You Want.

My only response when seeing discourse like “are games toy?” etc is to once again watch this video.

Perfect first lecture material.
"Are indie games developing a gambling problem? We'll discuss this in our article by focusing in solely on recent examples that have slot facades while ignoring the entire history of mobile games made by actual gambling industry designers"

So true! Why is everythign too long! Its the same with a lot of modern films too. We should stop equating value to duration. Theres too many games/films where my admiration and immersion get slowly depleted as the runtime extends beyond reason.
Congrats Eka, impressive stuff good luck with the launch!!!
Super interesting breakdown of a great non-simulation erosion PCG effect!
This just lead to the game feeling overlong to me, which is a shame because really enjoyed the first half or so. Its also hard not to compare it to jusant, which has a similar setting, but much less foddyian/obfuscated climbing.
Anyway I do admire the devs vision and I'd still reccomend it!
There are many visually strong holds, that just arent considered good by the game. Which lead to a lot of trial and error.
There are also no new tools or systems to learn after the first hour or so and the cliff faces offer visual variety but not much mechanical variation.
The main climbing mechanic is kind of deliberately obfuscated, meaning you can sometimes fail and not be sure what happened. I used to do a bit of climbing and the game version felt innacurate in a way that threw me off loads of times. It was really hard to consistently read a rock face.
Just finished playing Cairn. I liked it, but not as much as I'd hoped. It looked great, and I appreciated the grumpy main character. The atmosphere was good and even the slightly cheesy 'relics of lost tribe' stuff was decent. But ultimately I didnt really think the core mechanic justfied the length

I tend to like deep world building in games but less so in stories. I quite like it when it feels like an author is just going with the flow rather than having a determining backstory. It feels sort of more personal and dreamlike.
Following on from the last post I made, I've read both the full viriconium series and the new sun books, and although I think new sun is great I think I prefer viriconium because it isn't trying to be any kind of grand arc.
Needless to say I think Harrison is an amazing writer, I've enjoyed most of his books and his writing seems both deep and shallow at the same time. Kind of pointless and meaningful without really being clear. Not for everyone but I'm a fan.
It's very dude coded, and nothing much really happens for most of the story. But I am an old Yorkshire dude with connections to climbing and fond memories of drizzle lit by orange sodium, so i loved it.
Been away for a few days and just finished reading Climbers by M John Harrison. Much of the book is set where I grew up and the dreamlike and disassociated prose properly took me back to the mundane/grime/beauty of the landscape of my youth.

No, at least one person will dislike your game and that will be enough that you will never want to make a game again.
